This is a skirt I made for my daughter, 'loosely' using the instructions in the spring issue of Sew Stylish.

The fabric is an embellished crinkle knit I found in a remnant bin. It was a little more than a yard, so I had to scrimp when I was cutting. It was a pain to cut out, and a pain to sew, but I think the fabric is very pretty...and somewhat forgiving. Here is a close-up of the fabric:

Donna, the links don't work for me. It says

uh oh something bad happened. We are really sorry, but something went wrong while handling your request.

Okay, I think I fixed it; I forgot to change the setting from 'private' to 'public'. Ooops.

Please let me know if it works for you now. I guess it recognises me because I always use the same computer...so, when I tested it, I didn't have a problem. :monkey:

Thanks, Dorothy,

I love the fabric, but my 16-year old daughter is a very fussy dresser...especially when it comes to fit and style.

She hasn't seen the completed project yet, but she knew I was making it for her. Her first response was that she doesn't usually wear 'long' skirts, but she should probably have one... :re: I say there is no 'probably' about it! I'm hoping she will see that this type of skirt is in style right now, and hers is made from a much nicer fabric than most.

The only problem right now is that the fabric is quite sheer, so I will have to add some type of lining, or she may have to wear an underslip of some sort...
Take care,
Donna

Thank you, Brenda.

I often feel that I'm not nearly as productive in my hobby as I should or would like to be...and I'm not! But when I look back at the things I've made, I'm pleasantly surprised by how much I have done.

Most of them look a lot better in pictures, by the way! :bolt:

That is so pretty! I've seen that fabric, and always wondered if there was anything I could do with it. I've always passed it by. Someday, it will jump right into my shopping basket.

Let us know what you do about lining it or wearing something underneath.

Very nice skirt, Donna! Great job. Did you use a pattern? or was there one included in the magazine you mentioned?

Thanks ladies.

Sandy, There is no pattern, but the article in the magazine gives the cutting formula...the pieces are all strips of different widths and lengths. The formula for each strip is based on the widest measurement in the hip area.

The article doesn't mention seam allowances, so you have to add them in. I also added on a waistband because I thought the top strip would look too narrow if I tried to put the elastic casing in it.
Take care,
Donna
