Hi, I'm new to the sewing world and I just have a few questions if anyone could answer them. I'm expecting a baby here in a few months and I want to make the bedding for his crib. I fould a fabric that caught my eye! Could anyone give me any tips or anything to help me? I bought a pattern but I'm afraid its not going to match the measurements of my crib that I have on order. Thank you!

I just made some the other day for my new grandaughters.
My directions are to cut a piece of fabric 45"X69".
cut out a 7" square from each corner.
stitch the corners with a 1/2" seam forming a miter.
Finish bottom edge with a narrow hem or by serging.
measure 3 yds. 1/4" elastic.
stitch to form tube.
divide into 4 equal sections.
mark center on each side of sheet.
pin elastic matching each section.
Stretch to fit as you stitch with a narrow zigzag .
I hope you can understand my directions. I am better at showing than telling.

Crib mattresses are standard sizes. If you purchased the pattern(s) from a major company, there shouldn't be a problem with the pattern fitting your crib. I've never had a problem.

Patterns are all well and good, unless you have something that is not a "standard" size. Measure EVERYTHING, add your seam allowance, and go for it! The pattern can still be your guide.
If you are not totally confident on your first try, use a fabric you like, but are not totally in love with.
Unlike people, who can change as you fit them, home dec of any kind always stays the same. Mattresses, windows, furniture, blissfully remain the same.
Let us know how it turns out!

What about the bumper pad and ruffle? Are they usually the same sixe for all cribs?

I've never had a problem with any of the bedding for cribs. Now, when it comes to bassinets and cradles, it can be a little different. There are a couple of sizes that are standard and then there are "others".

I make sheets almost exactly like Mommyofsix but I use a wide zigzag so that it forms a casing for the elastic..

Unless you ordered one of those round cribs then yes all cribs are the same dimensions.. CWTSP

I make them all the time for my granddaughter.. she's in a toddler bed now and they fit perfect because it's the same mattress.. I also made her pac n play sheets but that was my own pattern for that...

good luck

do you have to use flannel to make the bedding or can you use cotton?
