I'm so frustrated with patterns lately. I wanted a Simplicity pattern and I usually use a combo of 12 and 14. Well this stupid pattern goes from 8-12 then 14-20. They only had the 14-20 which I ended up buying, cause I figure it's easier to make it smaller than larger. Same thing with a pants pattern, and I finally decided not to even bother with it, I'm going to use a pattern I already have and just add the extra touches that this one had. Sheesh! I like multi sizing but why do they have to multi size split in that spot! Ok, I feel better now. Laura

I'm sorry Laura, but that kinda made me giggle. It would be frustrating. Dorothy |

I feel your pain. I'm a 14/16 and they split there a lot too. I have found patterns that go the whole range from 8-24 or so. Once again they are so consistant in their inconsistancy! Lennie |

I know the feeling! I'm not at a common split size, but I hardly know what size I am anymore -- my measurements before I started losing weight put me between an 18 and a 20, but when I made the 18, it was always much too big. The 16 seemed to fit. I really hate that vanity sizing! Now that I'm losing weight..well, all bets are off! I've already lost a couple inches all the way around -- we'll see where I end up.

I was at a sewing expo in Chicago and came across Peggy Sagers (Sayers?) trunk show and was amazed at the versatility of her patterns. She drafts her patterns to true measurment and adds instructions for better, mistake free use. Peggy has a web site if you wish to investigate further. When I spoke with her, she really seamed to know her craft. Thanks and Happy Easter to all! Rosemary |

Now that I'm losing weight..well, all bets are off! I've already lost a couple inches all the way around -- we'll see where I end up. Probably at just the wrong spot for split size patterns. Still you must be feeling pretty proud of yourself. Well done! Pauline

They only had the 14-20 which I ended up buying, cause I figure it's easier to make it smaller than larger. If you have purchased a graded commercial pattern and they are superimposed then you should be able to predict approximately were the next size up or down will be with reasonable accuracy. I wouldn't want to go too far because grading sometimes isnt proportional and then the intention is for you to buy the next pattern anyway. That should get you the size 12 or close to it. Remember to check your seam lengths against each other. Stuart Stuart

I agree with Stuart and that is often what I do. I have managed to size a pattern from a 14 to a 26 using that basic procedure and a few small alterations for change. (Pattern was not available in anything over 14 for a good reason). While I understand the frusteration with the multi sized patterns and I'm sure that all of us at one time or another have gotten "caught" in this problem, it is so much better than when all patterns came in one size at a time, which wasn't really all that long ago!! pam
