I'm going to try and get the pictures of my 3 piece suit that I finished last week and wore Easter Sunday morning.

This is the link to my Garment Construction photo album. See if that is better.

The pictures are really small Patsy. Is there any way that you can make them any larger. I couldn't seem to do it from my end.

I think I like them. :re:

I like an error message like that - "uh oh something bad happened" not "error number 39487293 please gobbledegook to continue or send error message". No real help, but down to earth about it.

BTW - very funky picture today Dorothy - an original or a faux retro? It's certainly got attitude.

Sorry ladies, that link was working fine last night. Yahoo is beginning to make me a little crazy but DH insists on keeping the DSL. I think I fixed it or at least it's working for me. Click on the Garment Construction Album and the two pictures should come up.

I love the colors. What kind of fabric is it? The jacket turned out great.

Thank you ladies. That pattern is Simplicity 4273, I think. The princess cut patterns work great for me and are the easiest for me to do pattern adjustments on. The fabric is a lightweight washable polyester linen. It was very ravelly but a big hug went to my serger that made it much easier to sew and work with. Because the fabric is so lightweight, I lined the skirt and interlined (cut the jacket pieces out of the lining fabric and treated it as one piece when it was sewn and it gave the jacket a better drape. The blouse is from a McCall's Stitch'n Save (M4343, I think). It is also princess cut and is charmeuse silk.

I just double-clicked right on the photo and it got big enough to see much better.

Love the jacket and did the skirt have a little swing to it?

The skirt is gored and has a slight flare at the bottom. It hangs from a right at the hip bone waist band. It was easy to make and I finished it in one evening. When I lined the skirt, I attached it to the bottom of the skirt and then turned it right side out and attached the lining at the top of the skirt and the bottom of the waistband so I didn't have to do any hemming. I line as much as possible so I don't have to wear slips. I hate under slips, especially in the summer time.

Patsy... What a beautiful outfit; I especially like the colors - even though you had to put in so much extra effort in taming the raving and compensating with extra lining. Really beautiful!

Pam no, the blouse fabric was actually purchased at Hancock's on 15th St. in MWC. I was surprised when I found it there.

Patty I didn't add the lining to compensate for the fraying (which is what linen -- even poly blend linen does). I added the lining to the jacket to give it a little more body and drape and to keep it from strectching out of shape when I wear it. The fabric is really lightweight poly linen. But it is so comfortable and cool. I used china silk for the lining in both the skirt and the jacket and it feels so nice. It really didn't take that much time to cut the lining pieces for the jacket or the skirt. China silk handles really well and I cut the pieces with my rotary cutter and just use the big quilting pins for the pattern pieces.

Ladies thank you all for your kind compliments. I love sewing sew much and when I start a project like my suit, I take my time and do all the finish details. The suit is really comfortable and classy looking, even if I do say so and I'll probably use the pattern again with a few changes here and there.

Patsey, the outfit is so nice. Where did you get the silk? Thanks for the tip about interlining and the tip about lining the skirt to avoid heming.

Hancock Fabrics carries china silk in most all colors and it makes wonderful lightweight lining and is very easy to sew and durable. In fact, I washed and dried all the fabrics in the suit and blouse before laying out and cutting.

It IS a very durable fabric! We used it to make 5X7 color guard flags and 25' streamers and it holds up very well.

I've found that, for me, as a lining for skirts and jackets, it's much cooler to wear than some of the regular lining fabrics.
