HI,
I'm Emily Jager from Lynden, Washington. I am 16 years old and have been sewing since I was about 8 years old. I love sewing many different things and I am very excited to see what this will be like. Hopefully, I will be able to figure out how everything works. Other wise I will be asking a lot of questions. :re:
This should be lots of fun.

Welcome, Emily

We are glad you have joined us and hope you can give us some perspectives from your age range. My daughter had a baby last year and I sure learned from her a lot of things had changed in the years since I had her - including what infants wear these days. So enjoy, ask away, and give advice that you have. If you have been sewing for 8 years you are a bit of an expert, yourself.

Hi Emily and welcome! Good to see people your age. Not that I feel like an ancestor (I'm 25), but it's good to see every age group represented here

Welcome Emily...I agree it nice to have all ages on this board...I just wish I could get my girls interested in sewing or craft's... I have one who likes to do scrap booking.

What do you like to sew the most? I like to make vest's or skirt's .

hi,

I love to sew many different things but I really like making clothing for myself. Like skirts and dress for Church. I also really like to quilt. I have done a couple different kinds of quilts. I look forward to being able to talk to many different people who are sewers or quilters.:re:

Hi Emily and welcome. I'm at the grandmother age but sewing is sewing no matter what age we are. I am also a quilt addict and have probably 5 or 6 quilts going at the present time. I like a lot of the skirt patterns that are presently available, especially the gored patterns with a little flare at the bottom. Yesterday I saw a skirt a young lady in our office was wearing with a really pretty brown and white nylon overlay. I'm going to check out the pattern books this afternoon to see what I can find in that venue.

Hi Emily,

We are a pretty friendly bunch here and certainly cover a range of sewing/quilting interests. If you've been sewing for 8 years there's a good chance you'll be answering questions as well as asking but either is good.

When I was 16 (not so long ago... ahem) I was mainly into reconstructions. I wasn't allowed much access to the sewing machine and finances didn't allow for much in the way of fabric purchases so I would take apart old clothes and turn them into something different - all by hand. I shudder now to think of some of my mothers classic 50s/60s gear (she held onto a lot) that got modified into something more up to date. I should have just waited and it would all have come back into style. :bg:

I still put the odd bit of clothing aside with the intention of doing something with it - part of my growing collection of UFOs.

Are you lucky enough to have your own machine or share with your mum?

Or are you very seriously motivated and do your sewing by hand?

hi,

My mom bought the machine for the family but I am the only one that uses it. I am sewing dutch costumes for my sister and my cousin right now. They are a lot of fun to make partly because they are so different from what I normally make and partly because i just love to sew.:re: :re: :re: :re: :re:

Would love to see the costumes when you've finished if possible Emily. My MIL is Dutch so I'm sure if I made my daughter a Dutch costume she would be over the moon.

First you need a digital camera or a way of getting photos to your computer. Then go to a site called photobucket and click on this linkhttp://photobucket.com/register.php

Once you've registered (it will take a little while to email you back etc.) you can go to the site, login and upload the photos.

The page will have a button "browse" and you use that to find the photos on your computer and upload them. It should be fairly self explanatory as you go.

Having given you these instructions I'd better get my act together and photograph all my projects and put them on there. I have a couple of other photos I've posted but not any of my sewing stuff.

There are a lot of similar sites around but this one is used by a lot of people here and seems pretty easy. If you have any problems just ask and I (or somebody else quicker or smarter) will help out.

Hi Emily, and welcome. I wish I could sew clothing and quilt! Meanwhile I'll keep plugging along, learning by doing (often the wrong way, lol).
