Thanks to all of you that answered my question about prewashing fabric. I will prewash. I liked the idea about putting the material in pillow cases to help prevent fraying.

Hey, I even prewash all of my garment fabric, if possible that way I don't have surprises after something is finished and has to be washed the first time.

I even started washing my purchased RTW stuff, that way I find I don't get itchy rashes from the stuff they put into it, plus it kind of grosses me out wondering who else may have tried this on before I bought it.

Bridesmom I thought I was the only one with that hangup! I don't really like to go try clothes on because it makes me creepy not knowing who may have put the same thing on before me.:re:

Well, I feel better knowing I'm not the only one!! I was beginning to think I was getting a little over the deep end with some stuff, but then I work in a hospital lab, so I guess it's to be expected.:re:

I haven't prewashed any RTW yet except underwear that my mother taught me to do in the days when my grandmother stopped making mine. But I put a pair of pants on today that reminded me of a recent incident. Last year when travelling I took some clothes into a change room to try on and it smelled like a combat troop mixed with a chain gang had been in the area at the end of a hard day. I gagged. I have NEVER smelled anything like it. A bunch of gigglies were leaving as I went in so maybe their mother's never taught them hygeine. At least they would never have tried on my size or style of clothes. I told a sales clerk about it and she just shrugged 'what can you do'. I would think they could stop some people from trying on clothes!!

Another method I found works well, is to serge each end.

Have a great day.
