Grumble, grumble. ...... tell her to put her money where her mouth is.....and show us a jacket she has made! An embroidery machine, is not an easy machne. However, embriodering napkins is probably one of the simpler items to make. But using that machine for other items takes some experience, skill and knowledge to setup. But I bet many of you on this forum could knock her socks off on what you can do with your machines (besides napkins)!

Grumble, Grumble, from me too. I would love to see what Martha can do. She talks about how the skills are still there from college. Come on! We all know that if you don't use skills they become less. I used to be a pretty mean potter in my college years (much more recent then Matha's), but I bet if I tried to throw a pot today it would surely be all wonky. I used to be pretty good at playing the guitar too, back when I was 14 (20 yrs ago) but I bought one just last year and was like whoa I think I forgot more than I remember. There is this phrase that comes to mind. "Use it or loose it." It is my guess that she has lost it. Gina

Maybe, maybe not. I just think the sewing industry at large needs a different spokesperson. I vote for Pam.

These companies wouldn't be using Martha Stewart unless they thought it would sell machines. She makes money -- for herself and others -- and, probably, most of it honestly. Her ability to sew has little to do with selling sewing machines. Remember the guy who sold pills and started the ad "I'm not a doctor -- but I play one on television." Dorothy If some people learn to love sewing because she endorses it, well that's a good thing. It means the demand for fabric will go up and you may have somewhere to shop. And, as much as I like and admire Pam, she doesn't have the corporate clout Stewart does. That said, I've never watched a Martha Stewart show except a couple on the food channel before she got busted. Still, like I said before, I do like her middle finger attitude. Dorothy |

I sure appreciate your keeping so current with sewing- related articles, Mary. I share them with my home-ec teacher friend to use in her classes.

Hey gilrs you may not like her and you may hate her, however, you gotta hand it to her -- she laughs all the way to the bank!!! Too bad Pam doesn't own K-Mart & Sears and a lot of other things that most of us will never know about. That's why I say you gotta hand it to Martha, she knows how to keep raking in the green stuff that spends!!! Patsy Patsy

well.... I like Martha and I have a slew of opinions about her court case I will not bore you with but this is GOOD for sewing, more machines sold, more fabric purchased, more fabric that will need to be bought by wholesalers for a different breed of sewers who want GARMENT fabric (apologies to all you quilters but I'm tired of seeing shops of only cotton) give me some linen, and silk and wool, these higher end shoppers that she may appeal to might create a better fabric junkie market for the rest of us! With fabric shops closing out everywhere this may actually turn things around, she has that kind of power! Jeanette

I agree, Jeanette! The assortment of colors and fabrics in our "fabric" stores is just horrible!!!

Let's just hope we do always have Helen's. The management there continues to age...but then again, so do I....

I am in total agreement, the fabric stores are sadly lacking in many areas.

Not in the junk, garden ornament and candy bar areas -- at least not the JoAnn Fabrics around here. Dorothy |
