Hi there
Would anyone know where I might get a pattern for a Sling Purse? My Mom's birthday is the end of this month and she will be 82. She said she seen a lady with a Sling Purse and wondered if I could make her one. Any help would be great
tks

Hi Sandra,

Are you referring to the bags that are easy on the back? Like the ones they sell at LL Bean??

http://www.llbean.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?categoryId=500647&cat4=2879&storeId=1&catalogId=1&langId=-1&feat=&startRec=13&numWanted=12

If so, Wild Ginger has a free download for accessories patterns. Included in this is what they call an Ergo bag. It's pretty cute and almost identical to the ones at LL Bean...the straps a bit different, but that's it. Here's a link to Wild Ginger:

Hope this helps!

Sandy

Sandra - I am glad you found what you wanted and the price is certainly good. I have a bad back and like to use what is referred to as a sling bag. I make up my own designs as a rule, copied from a purchsed worn out one I have. I can't tell you the number of patterns I have, which I never seem to get made. The latest is a X bag pattern I bought just yesterday.
If you want to look further, the pattern that is called sling bag is often referred to as a messager bag and there are lots free patterns on line. Unfortunately my links are well buried today.

If anyone else knows about patterns - I am looking for what I call, a Ghandi bag. He wore a long shapeless bag. I have seen it in a crochet design (similar to French shoppy bag) but never made seen one made out of fabric. Anyone know of a free bag pattern like this? The mesh ones I have seen are amazingly expensive!

Hi Nancy
A bad back certainly is no fun. I have a foot support at work and a back support. Sitting all day plays havoc on my back and then when you do have to stand any great length of time it is bothersome. I like the idea of the sling purse and I will look up messenger bag on the system and see if I can get some of those free patterns.
I will search and see if I can find any patterns for the Ghandi bag. I have seen the crocheted ones as well.
I am startng to collect patterns as well and have them all in a binder. Hopefully I will get to make some of them.
take care
Sandra

Memory is another weakness of mine, Sandra. After being on this forum last night I searched in my purse file and found that I do have what I am looking for. I can't tell anyone how to access as it was one that was in a newletter some time ago, hence the lack of memory. Barbara Weiland is the newsletter author. I believe I downloaded several years ago. Imagine, I have been looking for something I already have.
Thanks for offering.

Try these for a messager bag: http://craftandfabriclinks.com/purse/free_purse_pattern.html

Nancy you are too funny but I agree the mind does play tricks. I checked out this site and there are some really nice purses. Maybe someone else out there might have the one from the news letter.
I want to venture a purse out of quilted fabric, shoulder style, if I can conjour up a nice pattern for it.
We are suppose to get 15 to 25 cm of snow between today and tomorrow and 10 cm of rain. Rather then be at work it would be a nice day to be home getting into mischieve with my serger and sewing machine
