Ever since I got interested in making ribbon roses and put them on a purse, I can't seem to wean myself from this embellishing kick. I'm really enjoying it.

I just stitched some lace trim on a Lee denim vest, but now I want to stitch individual motifs on it. Before I start, I was wondering if anyone had advice. I've got my motifs pinned down here and there. Do I just go for it using satin stitch or a tiny zig zag or are there any other prep steps I should be following for best results?

All advice appreciated.

If you have an extra motif, try it on a sample of heavy denim [old jeans leg?] and try a tiny zigzag. One other thing you might try is some "You Can Wash It" glue. It really does work, and you really can wash it.

Hi, Judi:
This is my old spare denim.

I haven't tried that glue yet. I did buy some Fabric stiffener spray recently, and now I'm wondering if there's any point in using that on my lace to make it sit better or easier to sew on, etc.

You might want to see if your machine has a multiple zig zag stitch. Depending on how dense the lace is, it might hold better and blend with the design. I have seen where some lace just tears at the satin stitch edge. With a multiple zig zag you could blend thru the lace and secure it in the middle, less likely to catch on some thing and tear. That is how manufacturers do the lace on wedding gowns to hold in place. Katie

I signed up for instant e-mail notification if someone replies, but it's not working properly for me. Good thing I decided to check back.

Katie, I'm not sure what a true multiple zigzag stitch is, but I've got a selection of stitches on my Janome 6260QC that look like they would do what your suggesting. Would stitching a regular zigzag with 2 needles do the same thing?

My fancy stitches get set automatically by the machine, but if I'm stitching a zigzag with 2 needles, what stitch length and width would you suggest?
