An hour before we were to go to a birthday party, this afternoon, we went to wrap the gift and found that we had no giftwrap and no giftbags. The party was for a 2 year old boy, and I had in my stash 2 yards of flannel with a fun farm type print. So we cut 1 yard, ironed it, and made it into a pillowcase. We put the gift inside and tied it shut with cheap blue ribbon. I think it was cheaper than giftwrap!
Off we went and had a great time!

When my boys were little (in their 30's now) we couldn't find any gift wrap in the house appropriate for a little boys birthday. Used the coloured comic section of the weekend newspaper. Put a big bow on and it was OK. jessie s

Jessie S -- my DH stilll uses the comics to this day (he's 46). He thinks it's fun and useful and has nothing to do with recycling! My kids think he's nuts, but anything that makes him happy!

I love the pillow case idea! I will be "borrowing" that idea for a long time to come. We have many parties coming up, mostly boys, and their moms love gifts that can be reused like this!

I actually had looked for the comics, but didn't have enough. But I did realize that although I might not have gift wrap or gift bags, I will always have cool looking fabric!

I have been making tote bags in varying sizes to use as gift bags. I sold some at Christmas time made from scraps they sold for $1-$2. & only cost a few min of time each. I have made some lined & others are just stitched on the serger. I make some any time I have a big enough scrap or just cabn't motivate myself to cut & really feel like sewing. Some I have made using pillow panels that I got on clearance. DGS has picked out a Star Wars one for his 6th Bday next month. Now I just have to figure out what to fill it with. I did a few pillow cases at Christmas but the tote bags are more likely to get reused around here.

Barb, that is such a good idea. I'm filing that away in the back of my brain to pull out soon and give it a try.

Is that a good place to keep things - I keep losing stuff in there.

What a wonderful Idea,Christmas time I have a craft party and Easter I have a breakfast for my friends .I always give a little gift and have to buy gift bags to put it in....I will put this on paper, cause if I brain file I sometimes get memory overload and loses everything...Thanks for the idea....Vic

I forgot to mention that sometimes I make a color copy of a section of the print ie: a flower, skateboard, egg etc. & then use that as a gift tag.

Here is a picture of some of the presents under the tree last Christmas. It was nice that I could make them to fit each present & it didn't take much more time than wrapping with paper, I have most of the bags here for next year & there weren't any paper fights this year.

Have a friend who has grown married children and grandchildren. So her Christmas list keeps growing. She got tired of wrapping gifts so made gift bags, some large and some smaller. Each person has their own colour. Christmas presents are put in the bags and if they want presents next year they have to return bags. Works for them. jessie s

A nice birthday gift for children of any age is a flannel pillowcase and matching PJ bottoms. :bday:
