I just finished cutting out a hoodie and pants for a 5yr old out of this stuff and my gosh, I have fluffies everywhere!!!
It's very stretchy (emphasis on VERY). So how am I going to sew this and not totally clog up my machine??? Do I serge all the pieces before sewing them??? The fabric almost shreds. I was wearing black knit pants, now they are a faded black with all the fluffies. I'm not sewing this stuff until I hear from someone!!

You can serge all of the edges before sewing and then make sure you clean your machine afterward. I actually use my serger to construct my garments and other projects, so it is certainly capable of doing that. Also you can wrap your seams with lightweight organdy or batiste...even tissue paper (like for pattern making) and then remove the paper.
Make sure you sew it with right sides together, nap going the same way. You are going to have to use directional sewing in this case because if you sew against the nap, it will only increase the shedding and also crush the velour where you sewed making your garment look less than perfect.
I hope this helps,
Katherine

Thanks Katherine, that was a huge help. I wouldn't have even thought about the directional sewing!! Wish me luck, here I go.

It's probably too late for this very basic suggestion this time but I've worked with similar stuff and I find it really helps to just take it outside immediately after cutting and shake the heck out of it. It seems to settle down a lot then.

I also always hope that the little birdies find it to line their nests!

Also probably too late but why not play with some of the offcuts and see how they behave.

Well, this is absolutely beautiful fabric, but OMG it's a nightmare to sew on. It is SSSOOOO slippery, I pinned and pinned and slowly serged it all together and it still slid all over the place. And it's so stretchy, I'm thinking these pants are going to grow another inch or so if they get hung up. But I did stabilize the back and did a huge fairy embroidery design which I am very pleased with. But you have to wait until tomorrow for pictures, I'm beat. I've been sewing and embroidering since 9 am.

Here's some pics of the outfit that I finally finished. It was a real challenge and I'm glad that the wearer is only 5 years old!! That way, she won't notice the crooked pocket or other little mishaps.

How pretty Laura. It looks too soft and cuddly to notice any little problems.

Did you try using a teflon foot when sewing? It does help with slippery fabric or a walking foot. However, your outfit with the embroidery is so beautiful, I don't think anyone will find any flaws. GREAT JOB!!!

Hey Marty, I never even thought about using a teflon foot. I just bought one to sew some vinyl, I thought they were for stickier fabrics. Would it work on the slippery rayon type of fabric??

Beautiful outfit for one luckly little girl!. My DD has bamboo organic sheets, and they do stretch out, but she says they are so comfy to sleep on! She actually prefers them to her flannel now!

Great job!
