Is it just me or are the finalists this year just not that great?? Anyway--I am still addicted and I watched last night and today I hear everyone in an up-roar about Jordan... I think she needs to get the microphone away from her mouth because you can hear her each and every breath when she sings--it is like nails on a chalkboard!! What do you think? |

LoL, I was thinking the same thing. I'm not sure who will win this year. I'm just happy that Sanjaya is gone. I'm not sure if there will ever be an Idol as good as Carrie Underwood though. |

My favorite was Chris Daugherty from last year (even though he didn't win)... |

Well, I'm still a Clay Atkin fan and always compare everyone to him. Just loved his rendition of Bridge over Troubled Waters...probably because it was my favourite song when it was first released many years ago. Back to this season...I agree the guys just don't seem to be idol quality and I'm not really a fan of Melinda's since she was a professional singer before even coming on the show. I'm watching but I'm not being impressed by anyone. TTFN from

I just started watching this year, so I don't really know what the contestants of previous shows were like...except, of course, the winners. I really like Jordin. She has a beautiful voice, is funny and sweet. She is only 17 years old, so she has a lot to learn, but I think that she deserves to win. I like that she seems to use her full voice range...low notes to high notes, and not loud to louder! Yes, Melinda is very polished as a performer, but as Judy said, she is a professional singer, with a lot more experience than the others. I don't think that she should be in the competition. I didn't really buy her wide-eyed 'oh-my-gosh' humble look every time the judges made their comments, and I'm glad that Simon finally told her to stop doing it, even though he did say it with a smile. Is that mean??? I liked Gina...but I don't think she made good song choices most of the time. She sang one slow song, and did a beautiful job of it. Of course, she isn't on the show anymore, so I guess that is irrelevant. I thought Lakisha was quite good, but I feel she is losing her luster. She is starting to sound monotonous to me. I don't know why she keeps picking songs by former idols...maybe she is hoping some of the magic will rub off... With all of the songs in the world, why do that? The others are all sometimesish. Sometimes they sound great, and other times they don't. Of the guys, I think I like Blake the best, although he needs to put a little more power in his voice. Sometimes he sings too softly. Just my opinion. Take care,

dmoses---I could not agree more! I think Blake is a good singer, he just dosen't have any wow factor to him anymore. He got the beat boxing out of the way and now he's just a bleached haired cabaret singer it seems. I haven't seen the show tonight (I DVR it so I don't have to see the commercials) but I sure hope Blake didn't go home. My best guess (remembering I have not seen the show) is that Phil and Lakiesha are in the bottom two (boy did they both stink it up last night) and Phil is probably gone. Oh well, he needs to be at home with that new kiddo. |

The show is not holding my attention like it did the past few seasons. A couple of shows I just watched the last 5 minutes so I could see a few seconds of each performance at the end. That way I didn't feel like I'd wasted an hour watching it. The first few shows I thought Lakisha would probably win, but now I agree she's making a mistake singing so many former Idol songs. Chris Daugherty is my all-time favorite too. |

I feel so jipped... they should have let one more go last night! I guess the bottom two from this week will be eliminated next week... unless they can get 70million votes next week. |

Maybe the bottom one was someone they didn't want to let go...and they figure that next week's votes may bring that person above the bottom two???

That was a cruel joke. They didn't mention who was in the bottom two...just said there would be a shock at the end of the show regarding the voting. I was ready to give up on the whole thing when it started to look like Jordin would be the one to go! I'm not ready for her to leave!!! I think they decided to do it that way...all of the contestants staying for another week...because of the charitable nature of the show last night. It would have been awkward to send one of the contestants home after all of that...special circumstances! Besides, there was a group song at the end. When would the one to leave have sung his/her farewell song? Next week will be scary...two contestants getting the boot! After last night, I don't even want to think about it... I can't believe I care about this stuff! Take care,

Here we are again... last night was another elimination. I was so not suprised at all that Phil was gone... nor was I suprised about the Justin Timberlake look alike (James was it? I forget his name..). The best thing--it looked like the two guys were going to kiss right there on stage! Then they didn't... I would have been shocked if they did. Once I rewound it though, it looked like Blake dodged the kiss--which was odd.... did anyone else notice? |

Well, I was very impressed with everyone this week, although Jordin did get a bad review from the judges...and I agree that it wasn't her best performance. I wasn't really surprised about the results, even though I was also thinking that Lakisha might not have the fan support to move on. However, I really liked her performance this week. Blake is the only guy left and I wonder if that makes him nervous. Maybe it will work in his favour...there are a lot of little girls out there with cell phones! I didn't notice anything when he and Chris were on stage, other than a lot of smiling and nervousness. Take care,

I felt a little sad to see LaKisha go...but she'll do well in the future, I'm sure. I actually liked Blake's renditions of his two songs even though none of the judges had anything good to say. I didn't like Lakisha's first song, but enjoyed the second one. Barry Gibb advised her to go up on some her notes, but she didn't take his advice. I wonder if she doesn't trust her voice in the upper range. I noticed before that she often changed the melodies of her songs slightly to keep the notes in a lower range...hence the reason I felt she was sounding monotonous. Just my opinion, of course. As the judges always say, Melinda is technically great, but they want something more from her. She has a good voice, and a strong voice, but she always sounds the same to me...maybe she needs to choose a gentler song, and go a little softer from time to time(but I hope she doesn't, because I don't want her to get any more fans!!! ) Jordin is my favourite, but one thing I really don't like is when she puts that 'crying' sound in her voice, and she seems to be doing it more and more. It's okay and appropriate sometimes, I guess, but I prefer to hear a purer sound. She does have a lovely voice. I guess Blake will be next, then Melinda and Jordin will have to battle it out in the final show??? Take care,

Well, I am happy with the results. My reason is that Melinda was a professional singer before coming on the show. I feel that American Idol should be for those who have talent and want to get started in the business. Let's face it...as long as you get to be on the show it is a way of getting noticed and if you have real talent you will move on. Melinda did not win but she won't go back into obscurity. She will be getting recording contracts for sure. But I don't think that she appealed to the younger population like Jordan & Blake do. IMHO, American Idol is becoming a popularity contest. In the back of my mind I wonder how much the vote was influenced by Simon saying that he would like to see "my girl Melinda in the finals". TTFN from

The way Blake talked last night I don't think he is a complete amateur either. He was talking about shows he did with Sir Mix a Lot. I really think Jordan will win.

I agree with you completely, Judy. But, I was surprised that it played out that way. One thing I noticed is that Melinda has a big voice, but not a big range. They assigned a Whitney Houston song, and she avoided the high notes, which, I think made the song boring. The one high note she tried, she fumbled. My husband disagreed with me...until they replayed a portion of it. Don't get me wrong, there are lots of songs that are entirely suited to her, and she does a great job on them, but to suggest that she did Whitney proud is nonsense, in my opinion. LaKisha used to do the same thing. When she did one of the BeeGees songs, Barry Gibb suggested that she go up in some parts of the song, and she nodded and smiled, but when the time came to sing, she stayed in the lower range. I was really disappointed...but have since gotten over it! To be fair, it's true of all of the contestants(and singers, for that matter)...they all have their talents and limitations, and none of them can be expected to sing perfectly in every style. Yes, it's a popularity contest, and, in the end, the producers are looking for a marketable product. What better way to determine marketability than by popular vote. Take care,

I forgot to mention this, but I thought it was weird. Did you guys hear Ryan's statement just before they went to commercial break, before they showed Melinda's trip to her hometown? It was something like, "Coming up next, Melinda goes home this week". My husband and I both thought that he had messed up and let the cat out of the bag. I think Melinda did too, because the camera turned to her, and she looked a little shocked/shaken. It was most likely referring to the trip to her hometown, but perhaps a little calculated in the way he said it...double entendre, perhaps? Take care,

Well, I was not the least bit suprised with the results. I still think that Blake is a WAY better performer and I agree with the earlier comment--Jordin started putting in sobbing at the ends of all of her songs. I guess to attempt to make us think that she really felt that way. I didn't buy it not one bit. She is 17 and yes she has a great voice but she still has a ton of life lessons to learn. She's probably not out of high school yet and probably will not finish with the start of a career now. I hope she finishes and I hope she can see that the music industry is a rough industry and it's not easy to succeed. On another note--what the heck was Gwen Staphani wearing? That seriously looked like a white sports bra over a black sports bra and a very badly placed pink sheet with a gold corset. That was the worst outfit ever!!! |
