Has anyone made items of these? I want to make some breathable, quick dry pants for hiking and canoeing. These two fabrics seem to be the main contenders but I am leery of their claims. Particularly the breathable part. My experience with RTW items claiming breathability is that they are not true, or only barely true. A soft cotton sort of hand would be nice too.

I have made bags from very similar fabrics. Commander is very much the same, hard wearing for outdoor projects. Breathability, I don't think so.

Thanks Mary. I've joined a hiking club and breathability is my prime concern for warm weather outings. I think I will forgo the supplex and just use some tightly woven cotton that I will pre-shrink the living daylights out of first. I have two pairs of supplex pants, RTW, both purchased some years ago, and they are so hot. I get soaking wet in them from sweat with hardly any exertion. I was hoping there was something new on the market but looks like NOT.

I found this on the www.timmelfabrics.com website. She carries Tactel.

Tactel is "DuPont's registered trademark for its brand of tactile and aesthetic Polyamid-6.6-fiber made of nylon" - definition from Wipedia
It is a tightly woven fabric, breathable, with good shape retention. I have seen Tactel in the past made up as a woven fabric and sold for making outerwear. These fabrics are fine interlocks, that resemble bathing suit fabrics in the hand and drape, and feel like the fabrics used in my family's running tops. Sew these into t-tops, wrap tops, knit dresses, and sweater sets.
