Where are the notches that don't match, at the waist band or on the panels? How far apart are they -- inches or just a little? Is there some ease you need to take up? Dorothy |

Dorothy yes there is ease, I am a very novice sewer, I may have bit off more than I could handle.. The top notches line up very well, then the very bottem are way way off. I try to post a pic... I already have been reading and rereading the Redondo stuff but it din't really help me much..actually confused me a bit more.. I am left handed also I think that may trip me up a bit also. I tried pinning it together but I just don't look like I did something right... will post pics. |

here are the instructions Place 2 spirals right sides together (the spirals will be facing in opposite directions). Begin sewing down from top edge of spiral, easing fabric and matching edges as you go, down to the C notches. Be careful not to catch folds of fabric in the seam. http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m317/scraptaculardesigns/th_swiexp.jpg (http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m317/scraptaculardesigns/swiexp.jpg) http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m317/scraptaculardesigns/th_swirl.jpg (http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m317/scraptaculardesigns/swirl.jpg) |

At the risk of Pam chasing me with her marble rolling pin --can you stretch the fabric to make it fit? Perhaps if you make ease stitches -- very long stitches -- you can pull the threads of the longer side and it will gather up shorter and you can make it fit. Also -- once you get it pinned together right sides together so the notches match (or are pretty close) it's not going to lay flat or look right. But when you open it out and press it after it is finished it will be right -- It's that way when ever you have that kind of curve. And you could -- everybody hates to hear this but it always helps -- hand baste it. That will help you avoid those little tucks where you ease it to fit. Dorothy |

Is this the Redondo skirt or just a spiral twirl skirt? I have 2 patterns, and on the spiral twirl skirt you sew the opposite curves together and have to stretch the shorter one to get them to meet. Both patterns have the basic same shape.

I am not sure my neighbor said gather the longer one a bit to get notch c to match notch b... she has been sewing for years, I hope she is right...I am going to try it. I belive I will but some $1.00 fabric and test the idea. She also said baste it.. |

On my redondo skirt pattern I only have a triangle and a star to match, no other notches. As far as the bottom, it seems to leave it kind of scallopy because the two pieces do not end up together.

Are you absolutely sure that notch C is supposed to match notch B? It looks to me that the C on on the tip of one piece should be matched to the C on the outside curve of the next piece.
Take care,

The directions looked wrong to me. I'm sorry I just saw your post. The spirals fit inside each other. I don't recall that the Redondo skirt even had notches, I don't think that it did. It also only has 5 insets where yours looks like it has more The biggest problem with the skirt is that we've been taught to cut with the fabric folded and when you cut the Redondo you have to lay everything so that it is cut from the same side of the fabric...you just cut 5 times. The Redondo also is a little different shape. It has a piece that is added to each section to make the section curl on itself. I debated about using the ease stitches with the Redondo but instead I clipped the inside curves toward the seamline to make them open up...it was kind of a toss up about which way to go, but I decided to be lazy. pam
