My name is Delphine and I've been sewing for forty years. I design and make wedding pillows. I enjoy sewing very much. I'm currently making a round pillow out of taffeta and I'm trying to sew ribbon around the pillow to make a border. The ribbion puckers as I pin it around. How do I place the ribbion around the round pillow so the ribbion lays flat around the pillow? Delphine |

Hi Delphine, welcome to the group. I don't have any answers for you but I'm sure someone who has made these before can help. I would suggest satin piping around the edge. Happy Stitching! Marty |

Hi Delphine, Welcome to Sew-What's-New! You may need to use bias ribbon to get the effect you want. May I suggest that you post this question in other threads...Home Decor, Heirloom Sewing, General Sewing, and/or Formal Wear. You may get more replies to your question. Take care,
Donna |

I don't know what kind of ribbon you are using but will steam from the iron soften it up enough to shape it around the edge of the pillow. Like Donna said, something cut from the bias is more likely to shape better. Dorothy |

Hello All and thank you for the nice welcome to the group. I didn't find a solution to my ribbon problem, so I made a cording out of it instead and it worked out great. I love sewing and I know I will visit this site a lot. Delphine |

To post a picture, you first need to upload your picture into a picture hosting service. Photobucket (http://photobucket.com/) works well. Once you've created yourself an account there and uploaded the picture, you'll be able to copy the picture's URL (its address on the Internet). Then you can start a message here, and use the little postcard icon, that will ask you for the picture's URL: just paste the URL in there. There you go ETA: It would probably be better to post the picture in the Heirloom Sewing or Formal Wear section. Isabelle

It's beautiful. Which method did you use to get the ribbon to curve? Marty |

I changed the design from ribbon around the pillow to making a cording out of the ribbon instead. I'm still looking for a way to sew ribbon on a round pillow. I usually make a square design and that's not a problem to place ribbon around the square. If anyone know how I can do a round pillow, I would appreciate the advice/suggestions. You might try threading the ribbon thru a multi-cord foot and sew slowly in the round. It seems to me that on one of Martha Pullen's episodes this method was used. Happy Stitching! Marty |
