Good morning everyone, it is an absolutely beautiful day here in Halifax. Sunshine, warm and bright, what more could you ask for. Today my sewing tip is about adjusting a garment for length. If shortening pants, sleeves, skirt, etc. never adjust more than two inches in any one area. If you do, the garment shape will be distorted. You will have to choose two separate areas to shorten or lengthen. Comments on this topic are more than welcome. Until next week, have a great day everyone. MaryW

This is a great tip, Mary, thank you. I shortened some cropped trousers to make them into shorts and I should have done this. |

I don't do much garment sewing because it is so hard for me to understand. I have a skirt I bought and want to shorten, I need to shorten it by 7 inches. Will I distort it if I cut it off and try to hem it? |

IMHO you can only go two ways here. You can chop it right off the bottom or you can go at it from the waist. I think it totally depends on the cut of the skirt and type of waistline. And thanks, Mary, this is a good tip for us height challenged folks....... Lennie |

Thanx Lennie, I got the skirt at Monday Maddness where on Mondays all half price stuff is 50 cents so I could pass it up. It fits well except the length. I'm not 5' and have a hard time finding clothes that fit. I will cut it off at the bottom and see. I won't have lost much if it doesn't work. Gena |
