i am thinking of using elastic thread on a bobbin as i want to make babies headbands that will have the stretchy gathered look but am not sure how to use the shirring elastic.....help!!: |

Hi Beverley, welcome to the group. I don't use shirring elastic so I can't help you with your project. Those I know who have used it, usually lay a strip of elastic flat and zigzag over the being careful not to catch the elastic in the stitch. Hope this helps. Marty |

Ok this is probably not going to make a bit of sense but i'll do my best at explaining how I do it lol. First I hand wind my bobbin with the elastic. Then I just thread my sewing like normal with regular thread. I adjust my sewing machine to the highest setting and make the tension as high as it will go. Then I just start sewing what needs to be shirred. If it's not as tight as i'd like it to be, I just run the iron over it as heat makes it shrink up more. I have done a couple of blouses for my daughters using this technique. I hope this helps. |

Hi Beverly, and welcome. I had not thought of using the elastic thread for a head band (I have a love/hate relationship with those things - I'm still trying to find a way to keep them in my daughter's hair, as she loves them). Let us know how it works out. Theresa
