Would there be any interest in making blocks from Rosemary Youngs' book The Civil War Diary Quilt, or her new book that is going to be released this summer Love Letters from the Civil War.

(The blocks could be made in reproduction fabrics of the era.) I happen to love reproduction fabrics of this era and there are certainly enough out on the market where we could direct everyone to a fabric line if they needed some assistance.

Rosemary Youngs' book is such a better resource than the Dear Jane quilt because there are actual diary and letter excerpts with every quilt block (121 blocks). The voices are both Confederate and Union, but the underlying message is the voices are just mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers from any period of time.

Does this kind of swap interest any of the swappers?

Patty,

I would love to do a civil war swap. I am doing Dear Jane blocks now. I haven't seen the other books, but I will look for them. Count me in if we do this swap.

Barbara...

The book is listed on www.overstock.com for $14.95. The regular price is 22.95. They are advertising as 5% cheaper than Amazon.

The Civil War Love Letter Quilt is $15.67 - shipment in the summer as it hasn't been released.

If you can find them at your local shop, let me know what you think of this book in comparison to the Dear Jane. I know both you and Susie are working on blocks.

Oh, and if anyone has any ideas about the swap.....maybe swapping fabric before we do the blocks, or just anything........ speak up!

I was able to find a book with the sweetest bably quilts the other day, SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I got it!!!
I know a few years back when I was rummaging thru the scraps bin at one of my local quilt shops that I would have a use one day for all of the cute baby scraps that they had in there for "5 cents" each!!!! I will be able to make 2 baby quilts out of the scraps!!!!

Patty I owe Barbara an apology I thought this was a fabric swap not the block swap and I told her Gina was doing the fabric swaps not Patty at the quilt shop today. This is a block swap made with reproduction fabrics right? I thought it was a fabric swap she was talking about today. It depends how many blocks I have to make I have so many irons in the fire at the moment I don't know which end is up. I have two quilts to make that I haven't even started yet and two half made and I have the block on the month started but way behind on them and way behind on my dear Jane blocks. I better sit out on this one too although if you have a fabric swap with the civil war fabrics I sure could add to my fabrics for my Dear Jane blocks, let me know if you do I'll get in that, I cheat on the addresses and all I have to do is buy the fat quarters at the shop. How hard is that? LOL:up:
I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

Susie and all, no need to apologize, I'm just feeling the waters to see if anyone would be interested in this kind of swap.

Patty I checked with my local store and they didn't have the book so I ordered it on line. Can't wait to get it. Has there been any more interest in this swap. I would love to do it. Let me know either way.

I would love to swap with you, to bad we can't get anyone else interested. Come on everyone, it will be fun. I will try to get Susie involved too. She will do it for me. Right Susie!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have my grandkids for the first 2 weeks in June, then I will be free to start sewing again. Anytime after that, would be great.

Patty,
I just noticed this thread. When would this swap start? After the hot block swap? I might be interested. It's so weird that I just noticed this post. My sister gave me that book (late birthday present) Saturday.

I'm really hoping there will be more interest in this swap. Maybe this fall? I guess everyone is busy with other things right now. Please don't give up on this swap just yet.
I love this book and the block patterns in it. I've been reading the diary entries from the book today. Patty, have you read page 272 yet? "A China Doll for Abbie". It's a very touching story. I'd like to make a few blocks from the china doll pattern for a wall hanging.
I'm planning to get the 2nd book when it's released.
My older sister always gets me the best quilting books. And she's not even a quilter.

Okay, I am officially done with school today so I can think about something else. I am interested in this swap but can't see my way clear to it until Hot Block Swap is done and my daughter is home (18 days but who is counting?) Have a couple of other things to finish up,too, like my granddaughter's rag quilt. But by midsummer I could be enticed. And Patty I think I know a perfect shop in Bozeman to get fabrics

I'll also have to wait until I'm finished with the hot block swap, but I'm so glad someone else is interested. How about it Patty?

Check this out. I might have to get this one too:

Patty,
I hope this idea is still alive, I just reread the replys and we have 6 interested. Now that the Hot Block is near the end, maybe we can get a few more interested in this one. I would really love to have this as our next block swap.
