I have a tank top that I'm combining with a rhumba skirt I'm making and I was thinking of taking the tank and making it into a halter top. BUT...I've never done that before (especially working with knit fabric). Can someone walk me through that? I was thinking of adding some rough appliqued surfboards to the front and a ruffle on the bottom too. Here's a pic of the materials...the tee is off to the left. http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/2/0/5/1/2/2/webimg/45017089_o.jpg First time post-er (I think ) Kelly |

Most of the halter tops I've seen in reconstructions have been ones that fold down the top edge of the bodice in some way to form a casing which the halter strap threads through. A lot would depend on the cut of the tank you currently have - i.e. where the straps are and how high up the top of the bodice currently sits. Most of what I have seen are made from tshirts or fabric. There might not be enough material in a tank top to use this method unless you use your other fabric to add to it - cut off the binding on the tank and make a fabric binding around the back, sides and top edge of the tank. I've made a halter dress for my daughter and will post some pictures a bit later (she's still in bed as it's 6.30 am for me). There are a lot of reconstructions here http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=125734.0 or you could just google halter reconstructions. Love to see the finished items. Pauline

Wow! What a link...can't wait to sift thru those tutes. In the mean time I'll look a little more at my tank and see what I can do. Thanks, Kelly |
