Well.... my two year old is just holding onto his life b/c I have not decided whether I'm going to do him in or not.
I have just discovered there is a teeny hole on the top of my bernina where if you flip the bobbin winder switch that glass headed pins will drop down in perfectly!
Once my blood pressure got down below stroke point I took the top off (likely voided my warrently but it's not valid anyway b/c I bought the machine while living in the US 5 years ago  ) 2 pins were stuck to a little magnetic drum and were reachable by my fingers and two had fallen way down deep, I could see them with the aid of yee handy mini-mag lite (those focusing beams do work!) they are laying on the metal base not touching anything which pertains to the real innards of the machine! Soooo my local bernina dealer is closed tomorrow so I will call them tues and truck over wed to drop it off (It needed a tune up and and some TLC any way right???)
arghhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!

Aren't kids wonderful? It's a good thing you found out about it before it wrecked something. Kind of reminds me a sewing machine I picked up one time that wouldn't work but kept sounding like it wanted to. It had a small electic motor with slots in the case for cooling purposes, apparently someone's little kid filled it with buttons thru the slots, took the case apart, cleaned out the buttons and everything was great. That was about 20 years ago and as far as I know it's still working. I gave it to a neighbor who need a machine. They have since moved away.

Oh my! I can not even imagine what my reaction would be. Remember, you do love the child, you do love the child, you do love the child....
I hope it gets checked out with no issues.

When I was sewing professionally, I walked in one day to find my oldest daughter trimming her braces wires with my good Gingher 5 inch scissors...beside her were the applique scissors and two pair of my best Gingher dressmaker offset scissors...in total somewhere between $120-160.00! Do you know what happens when you clip hard wire with Ginghers....you get nicks..not one nick...multiple nicks if you have a determined daughter. Do you even KNOW what happens when you try to cut out chiffon, silks, satins with nicked scissors????

Gotta tell ya though, there are times when her daughter does something and I say "Payback....."

Your dealer will be able to get those pins out in nothing flat. Let's just hope that you haven't sewn with any of those in there...and ask him if there is a way to plug the hole with something. Good luck!!!

There are things you can see coming (like toast in the video player slot) and then there's the others. Like this one. It just seems so much more personal when it's your sewing machine though.

Hope it's an easy fix!

I was working at the serger when he did it, and the machine was turned off, so nothing sewn at all, immediately unplugged it etc. So no real damage has been done, so I think I got off pretty easy!

You should be fine then! When I go in to see my dealer, they often have the machines torn down to the frame because they are cleaning them. If your tech does a good cleaning, he'll take care of it easily!

Wow, I've had a couple of close calls like that myself, and I think I've nearly scared the life out of my boys when they've gotten near my machine, but so far nothing stuffed into it. They've mainly tried to put things on it. The one that got me scared was when they put magnets on my nice new Bernina 440 machine. Luckily, it didn't seem to do anything, and so they were allowed to live.

PS: doesn't it make you glad there's a Bernina dealer nearby?

I've always used magnets around my Bernies (all computerized) since I first got them. I used them around my old mechanical machines too. The dealer told me they were shielded and I guess they are because I've never been that careful!

I'm soooo glad there is a dealer nearby, I'm taking it in tomorrow, they said it should not be a big deal, I'm just not brave enought to take it apart, however after taking a look inside I think there is enough metal in the frame of that puppy to keep any magnet from affecting the innards. No wonder it is soooo heavy.
The older kids stay away from the sewing machines, this guy is only 2 and just does not understand yet. sigh....:re:
One of the guys at work suggesting sticking a magnet down into the machine to get them out!!!

The problem is that the machines have parts that can hold a charge. My tech wears a grounding bracelet when he works on them to keep from being zapped!

That's great news. In our large metropolitan community, tune-ups are around $140-150 not to mention the cost of any replacement part. Labor alone can run $80. However, if it has to be done, just grit your teeth and pay. We have 5 dealers and they are all about the same and will not service what they don't carry. So glad to hear that you got your machine fixed.

Back home, just set it up and turned it on and off, no time to sew right now, I'm watching my godson (who is peanut allergic) and his brother for the weekend starting tomorrow so I have to de-peanutify the house :re: .
but all is well that ends well, right???!!
