Hi All, I have a Janome MC10001 sewing/embroidery machine I'm having trouble doing embroidery on these dang towels. I'm not sure if it's because the design is to dense or I'm using the wrong size or type of needle. Any help would be appriecated. Thanks

Be sure that you are using a size 14 embroidery needle and a water soluable topping. Marty

What kind of problems are you having? When doing heavy towels I often have to adjust the presser foot pressure but without knowing what specific problem you are having, it is hard to know what to do about it...there are a number of things that can happen with towels.

Well here is what happened. I hooped the sticky paper then I put the towel on the sticky paper and basted it down. I put on the topper and then put it all in my machine. I did the first color that was called for. When I went to do the second color I didn't hold on to the thread tail and it got sucked down in the machine. I got a bird's nest and the thread broke. I cleared the nest then rethreaded the machine then that needle broke (probably bent the needle). I changed the needle (probably used the wrong needle, maybe used a machine needle instead of embroidery needle). When I started again that needle hit the fabric and just broke in half. Ok, so first thing: Is the stabilizer tightly hooped? I gues that it is possible that you stuck the stabilzer to the hoop underneath. That is fine but it should be tight. If you stick it to the hoop, put the hoops together first so that it has more are to adhere to...and you can even wrap the stabilzer a bit around the sides of the outside hoop. Now, unless you have a self-threading machine, always raise the foot when you thread the machine. This opens the tension disks while you are threading the machine and when you drop the foot, it closes the disks. Often thead nests are caused by not raising the foot when threading. If the thread is not properly seated in the disks it slips. Holding the end of the thread can be a little helpful but my machine at least overcomes the little looping that results if I don't hold the end of the thread...but if I don't open the disks...I PAY for it...and it can break the thread...even a needle. Always, when you have a problem with thread, rethread the machine from the beginning, remove the bobbin, clean the area thoroughly and make sure that everything is OK. More often than not, if my needle breaks like your last one, my thread is caught some place, like on the spindle or on the thread spool itself...check that. It might be that your machine needs to be recalibrated because of the "nest" if your needle is hitting the slide plate, you may need to turn the machine off and restart to recalibrate the machine. See if any of these things work for you...if not, we'll try something else...there are a lot of variables when doing embroidery. pam

If it turns out that none of Pams suggestions work, there is a good possibility that the needle has damaged the bobbincase. Remove it and inspect for needle holes or nicks. The are ususally in the felt pad or off to the right of it. Be sure to check from underneath or you won't be able to see any in the pad. If it is damaged you can try to smooth off the holes with fine sandpaper. If that doesn't work youll need a new bobboncase (around $51 on that model). Have fun or don't do it, Tom
