Ok this is my first message, so hopefully I am posting in the correct area, if not I am sure someone will let me know.

I have just cut out the pattern for Vogue 2890.

I had all my measurements taken and cut out the pattern accordingly.

Due to the cost of the fabric etc, I decided to tissue fit the pattern. To discover that the front will fit beautifully :bluesmile ............. but the back looks like it is 4 sizes to big!!!

The dress is strapless with boning in the front and side zipper.

So what do I do? :nc:

Can I just cut the back and back skirt to the smallest size or do I adjust the pattern the required amount for the back section only.

If I adjust the back area, am I better folding the excess in and if I do that do I need to fold the same amount in for the back section of the skirt??

Can someone please help????????????

I have wanted to make this dress for so long, and know I dont know what to do about the back.

Thank you for your help

I'm sure you will get a really good answer from some of the other ladies on this forum, but as I made my daughters wedding dress I think I can give you a little tip. I'd stop now, and get an old sheet and cut the dress out of the sheet, only really need to do to the hip area, sew it up and check the fitting, make the adjustments on the sheet dress, then once you are happy with the fit, make the adjustments on the real dress and go from there. On something like that I always make a muslin first, because you don't want to screw it up. You don't need to do the lining etc, just the basic dress. It may save you a ton of frustration and tears if you cut it too small now.

Thanks Bridesmom for your reply.

Was going to do a muslin anyway just wanted to be sure on how to make the alterations so I didnt get frustrated later :bang:

Yes I have done boning before so that is not an issue for me :bluesmile

However do you think that considering the only thing holding up this dress will be boning, an excellent fit and the grace of god :nervous: , would it be better to use a ling and chiffon with a bit of 'stretch' in it or not? :nc:

For my daughters dress I had the satin bodice, organza interfacing, batten??? lining (something like that) and an organza over bodice, it was also laced up the back so we could get it as tight as she needed. The dress I am doing now is in a stretch poplin with the same lining plus boning on the sides so it does stretch a bit to give a tighter fit and I am going to use Pam's tip about putting an elastic in the top when I sew the lining and bodice together to get a snugger fit.

Bemberg Rayon (http://www.denverfabrics.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=28838&source=Search) lining. It's the nicest natural lining, unless you move up a level to the silks.

Thanks Andrea, I knew it was something berg, but all I could think of was Battenberg which I knew was wrong, I knew someone would know the right name!!!
