Hi Everyone, Just introducing myself. I'm a 'desperately trying to retire' stretch fit pattern maker who came across this place by accident. It's really amazing to see people helping each other out so freely. My specialty is swimwear if I can help anyone just ask Stuart Stuart

Hi Stuart and welcome from the colder end (of Australia). I can imagine there would be a great deal of demand for your services where you live. And almost certainly on the site here too. I guess with winter (such as it is for you) coming you'll be slightly less busy at the moment. All the better for checking out the best of the websites. Look forward to seeing you on the boards. It's a great group here - all very friendly and helpful. Pauline

Hello Stuart and welcome. Desperately 'trying to retire' and admitting you are a pattern maker. Forget retiring, you may be about to become the most popular person on this site! There are a few aussies on this site, but you are the first male that I have heard of. Maybe some more gentleman will come out of the woodwork. Cheryl, mum to Kathryn, Adrian, Nicole, Matthew, Vanessa, Rebecca, Cassandra, James and Monique. Phew, I really need

Hi Stuart, you will find that this is a fun group with all sorts of topics. As a pattern maker, what are some of the challenges that you find in designing women's clothing? Happy Stitching! Marty |

As a pattern maker, what are some of the challenges that you find in designing women's clothing? Happy Stitching! Marty I pretty much exclusively did swimwear and a little dancewear here and there, but yes all women's. The biggest challenge for any pattern maker is the enormous variation in size and shape. I could write a whole page on this topic for something that appears self evident! The second challenge is probably the speed at which modern textiles are evolving. Stretch fabrics can do new things every year. Everytime I write the rules I have to start again. I often think it's hard for me, but if you consider students .... what they learn at the beginning of their course has changed by the time they reach third year! Stuart It's so nice to be welcomed by so many people so openly. I'm not sure if I can do this but I do have a website on swimwear patterns that I'm half finished writing ... if anyone wants to help proof read it (I'm sure it has bugs here and there) that would be of great value to me and hopefully I can share knowledge in return. http://home.iprimus.com.au/seanderson/index.htm Stuart
