Hi all, I am making a couple of light nightgowns and don't want the armhole and neck facings the dress pattern has, and would like to bind it instead. I am making the nightgowns out of rayon. Will bias binding made out of the same rayone work? |

I think it should work. Try folding a small sample of the fabric on the bias and give it a little tug...if it has enough stretch, it ought to work.
Take care,

I'm not sure it will be fun to sew (depends on the type of rayon you are using) but it will work just fine.

I went over and gave some Rayon on my shelf a tug and I think it would work, but it doesn't have the give of cotton. Dorothy |

Will bias binding made out of the same rayone work? I've gotten 3 replies all saying the rayon might work depending on the about of the stretch. Also that it might be harder to work with. Are there any other ideas about what to bind a rayon nightie in? Thanks as usual, for all you help. |

I haven't had any problems at all using rayon. All fibers stretch on the bias, and I find it a desirable effect when binding around curves. Once it's stitched into place as a binding, it won't stretch out of shape.

The amount of stretch probably has more to do with how tightly the fabric is woven than the fibers themselves -- I would think. But then what do I know? Dorothy |
