I just wanted to say that we made the body double out of duct tape and it worked. I cut it up the back, slid it off, put it on my smallest (store purchased body double) than stuffed in the boobies and tummy . Which were lower than the actual body double, (Do some of you know which areas I'm talking about, lol) than taped it back up in the back.

My friend followed the directions from the burda site that was posted on here. It has great instructions. I had to trim the neckline, armholes. and bottom. I cut the armholes back to the shoulder point (the same as the purchased body double) and it is terrific. I can lose quite a few pounds, and I need a major overhaul belly and boobs. Just thought you might like to know that someone tried your suggestion.

Congrats to you!

I just LOVE mine for getting a new pattern/muslin worked out to my "real" body dimensions.

I covered mine with a cotton knit body suit and made thread knots and basting lines on her where point of bust, belly button, the lowest I will accept for a neckline and my "forward" shoulder seam. I marked little squares of interfacing with permanent marker with notations and stitched these near the thread marks.

Have a nice day all!

Thanks Mary,

I love the idea of a body suit and how you have it marked. The duct tape look funny with 2 dots for point boobs. lol
Also guessing which is my waist. Thanks for your input.

Hi everyone. I am new here - and saw this about the body double. What a great idea!
Since I came in at the end of it, can someopne please tell me how this is done? (I got the duct tape part, but....).
How would one duct tape themselves if no-one else was around? (like I really would 'want' anyone around to see this happening)!
Thank you in advance. You all seem like great people. (And GrandmaC, I love your little t shirt dresses)!

sewwhite,

I don't think you could do one by yourself, as far as wrapping up your actual body. I've read somewhere about making your own form based on lots of measurements.

Here is one tutorial
http://sewnews.com/resources/library/0806form/index.html

I didn't use any paper. Just had DH wrap me up over some old tight knits. I also made separate "legs" coming out of the torso because I make a lot of pants and some stubby arms because I have fitting issues up there.

A note to the wise on the process - don't let whoever is wrapping you get it too tight. BREATHE! If you're claustrophobic, it might not be a good idea for you.

Good luck, you'll be glad you did it!

Hi,
I was the one who made the body double out of duct tape. Someone else on here gave us the burda site for free patterns and it was in there that I found it.

Here is the site link. I love mine, it came out great. We used about 2 large rolls of duct tape and I am a large size (16-20

That is more awesome than sliced bread! Thank you!
(I thought I had seen everything you could do with duct tape when Opera showed how to make cleavage with it)!
