Good day everyone and a warm welcome to all my new subscribers. It is a lovely day here in Halifax with sunny skies. The last few days have been quite cool so it's nice to have the warmth.

DVD PRODUCT REVIEW:
I have the Foolproof Buttonholes dvd by Sandra Betzina. Here is the review.

TODAYS FABRICS AND THE ENVIRONMENT:
We all hear about global warming, how our planet is changing and what we should be doing to help. Now, you can also use ecologically friendly fabric.

You may have heard about my bamboo top. It is one of the softest, most comfortable tops I own. The fabric is easy to work with and it feels soft as butter in your hand. There is also bamboo jersey which has a touch of spandex in it but free of dyes and chemical residues. Perfect for t shirts, jammies, underwear, etc. Organic cotton is just a touch beefier but just as nice to fondle and work with. Bamboo/cotton fleece is a new one that has a low pile with a smooth face. Perfect for a jacket on a cool evening or maybe a special robe.

All these fabrics are made from environmentally friendly fibers and finishing processes. Anyone with allergies can see the benefits of these fabrics but for those who want to be environmentally responsible, these fabrics are really the way of the future.

Why am I telling you all this? Because someone is going to win a $50.00 Eco fashion fabric gift pack. But, you have to meet the challenge. Tell us what you have sewn in the last six months and what you have learned from it.

One post will be selected from the entries and the winner will be announced in two weeks. I will start a new thread in General Sewing titled What I Have Learned in the Last Six Months. That is the ONLY forum you can post in. Good luck to you all.

Wazoodle has very generously sponsored this challenge and will be contributing the prize. Many thanks to Mike and Lee Anne.

IN CLOSING:
We have had a dismal couple of weeks here with cool temperatures and rain. Today is beautiful and sunny and so I am on my way outside. Next week I will be announcing the winner of the How Sewing Has Affected Me challenge. You are still eligible to enter and perhaps win the lovely prize donated by www.dancingwicks.com
Just post how sewing has affected your life. Post in the General Sewing forum.

Don't forget the current challenge as well. Those eco-friendly fabrics are going to some lucky recipient. Until next week, stay well, have some fun and enjoy your sewing.

Great newsletter, Mary. Thank you! I really have to find some eco-friendly fabric. (by the way, is the contest open worlwide?)

We just had a couple of cold and rainy weeks as well in Paris. The sun came back yesterday! :bg:

Question was what you have sewn in last few months. Well... May held 4 weddings and a prom. Apr. was my sons wedding, in which I had major sewing responsibilities. I guess I will choose the prom dress. Dress was constructed by looking at a picture of Lindsay Lohan in a music video dancing in a bathroom. This is where the fun starts. Major project. Turned out great. What I did learn is that no matter how well constructed a garment if you put it on a teenager they will manage to tear it up somehow. Skirt hung 12" past feet. Had to be picked up to move. She didnt step on dress but her date did. Almost a Janet Jackson at the SuperBowl. Some kind of memories. Pic is on myspace under rachels dress in Sewshesaid 's profile.
Anyway would love to win some eco friendly fabric. Darlene
