I finally made it to Hancock's today and what a sad sight. About 75% of the merchandise is gone. The home dec stuff was totally gone. (Not that I cared about that, I thought it took up too much space anyway) About 1/4 of the store still had a good bit of fabric and a few notions, books, and yarn. I got 12 yards of fabric and some thread for 70% off. Everything was at least 60% off up to 90% off. I could have found more I wanted if my son hadn't been with me. He said I couldn't possibly need more fabric. There were no shopping carts left at the store, so I had him carry the bolts around for me. I think he's embarrassed about being in a fabric store. I had to promise him a stop at the book store for that. The sales woman said they don't know when they'll close for good but the next nearest store closed down today. I'll probably go check out the Hancock's near my mom's house in a few days, if they don't close before then. It's so sad to be losing my favorite fabric store here. |

When one of the Hancock Fabric stores in my community closed in 2006, the liquidation company sold everything including the pattern file cabinets ($10) and shelves. Took it down to the bare walls. This all happened within a 6 week period. Good luck on finding one open. |

This store also had the pattern cabinets and display shelves for sale. I'm not sure how much they were asking. The only ones I was interested in (wire basket racks on wheels) had signs on them that said not for sale. A saleslady told me they don't know when they go in each day if they'll be open for the next day. At least I still have Hobby Lobby, even tho it's 25 miles away. |

Nope, just selected ones. Let me know where you are located and I can tell you if there is a Hancock's in your area that is closing. Patsy Patsy

Patsy, my Hancocks store is at Windsor Square in Matthews, NC.. They told me they are one of the top stores and will not be closing.. I hope they are telling me the truth.. We only have them, Wally world and Hobby Lobby left.. The nearest Joannes is in Salisbury NC.. That is about 50 miles away, I guess.. Sew With Love

Libby good news!!! Your Hancock Fabrics store is safe. The only 2 stores that will be closed in North Carolina are in Rocky Mounty and Cary. This info is straight from the "horses mouth", the bankruptcy court. Patsy Patsy

Robin the stores being closed in Colorado are in Aurora, Fort Collins and Littleton. None in Denver. If you go to www.hancockfabrics.com and find where it says "store locator" and click on that, it will give you all, if any, stores in the Denver area, I'm pretty sure. Patsy Patsy

I have been told by the employees in Huntsville Al. that their store will not close. My son told me that the Hancocks in Cleveland, TN is closing. on another note I went to a Wal-mart in Gardendale a suberb of Birmingham AL and they had a nice fabric department and employees that sew. I was told they are hanging on to their fabric for now. I also went to Wilsons Fabrics and Crafts in Boaz AL and they had a lot of fabric to choose from including batiste, some lycra, and some home dec. fabrics. . It is a small crowded warehouse type store and no chairs to sit in and for that matter I only saw two pattern file cabinets and no pattern books. Wilsons Is 1 1/2 hours away from home for me, hancocks is forty miles away and Wallyworld is 20 min, away. Scottsboro AL where I work has a new little fabric store that just opened on the square. That is the same direction as Wal-Mart. I'll go back to Wilsons again whin I want to stock up my stash. Belinda |

Bama you can always go see the inlaws here in Louisiana and go to two of them in Baton Rouge that are not closing. They have 3 there and only one is closing.
I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.
