I am making 4 shirts of the same fabric
2 mens XL (2 3/8 yd)
1 mens S (2 1/4 yd)
1 boys S (1 yd)

Do I still need the full yardage or can I save some money? Just wodering since they're all the same if the layout can be modified to cut back on the yardage and have less waste.

If it helps, it's Simplicity 5581 style A (but without the chest pocket - not that that will make a difference...)

Thanks!
Robin

You probably wont need the total yardage Robin. The best way to check it would be to lay all of your pattern pieces out on the floor, and see what you can fit where. I if you are like most of us, you will have some material around that will be the same width you can use for a trial. If not, just mark out and area on your floor that is the same width as the folded material you are going to buy.
But remember to take note of any pattern on the material, or you could end up with sleeves upside down etc.
Cheers, Soph.

I'm happiest when I am sewing!

If it helps any I made a shirt for my husband who is a large out of 2 yards of fabric, but I did cut the sleeves about an inch shorter, but I REALLY had to scrimp (45" fabric). I made a booboo and needed 2 m which is around 2 1/4 yds but bought it in WA and asked for 2 yards. So it can be done with less. The boys medium I made asked for 1 yard which I was good for and did have some extra left over, but not much.

Thanks for the tips. I'll never mention to my hubby that a Canuck fan added help.

Ok, I promise I'll never tell. I've been thinking about changing it to our WJHL team, the Giants, as THEY won the memorial cup, not like the Canucks. Though you got to admit, we are a great bunch of enthusiastic fans!
