What is everybody doing for excitement this summer? Travelling or staying home? I am going to have my SIL here for a couple of weeks in August. Other than that, I don't think we are doing too much. Hopefully some day trips on the weekends to auctions and country restaurants. :bg:

We're still talking about going to Montreal over the Fourth of July. We enjoyed it so much a few years ago. But with the cost of gas we will likely just stay home.

As usual I will be working only one day per week after school get out (I work one full week after the students' last day and start again 2 weeks before the students in the fall). The other days of the week I will be finishing the work we started on the downstairs bathroom, repainting the laundry room, tiling the floors in the bathroom and laundry room and maybe even repainting the kitchen.

There is always the trim on the outside of the house that needs to be repainted as well and if there is any time left over, I'd like to whip up a couple more quilts and maybe a few baskets.

Other than that, there is no vacation plans. DH has mud season free, but I work. I have time in the summer, but he's working now. We might get a day together, though.

My hubby and I just got back from a weekend up the North Shore of Minnesota. We stayed at an Inn/Resort right on Lake Superior and it was abosolutely GORGEOUS. It is our favorite place to go and get away for a few days. We celebrated my birthday in a small little restrauant along the shore and it was magical. :) This one will go down in the books as a super "vacation"!

If you get a chance to visit MN at all...The North Shore AKA the southwest side of Lake Superior along the MN Border....is BEAUTIFUL. Winter or Summer it is busy and so pretty. PLUS....THERE ARE QUILT SHOPS EVERYWHERE!!!!!! We went to 4 of them on our little adventure! WOOOHOOO!!!

Well I kicked off my Summer with a trip to Port Aransas (Gulf Coast). Went as an adult with my eldest daughter's Girl Scout Troop. We had a blast!
Next we will be taking a weekend trip to a campground somewhere within an hours drive of San Antonio to break in the camper. Then we will head off for our yearly trip to Iowa/Illinois so my hubby can ride RAGBRAI and I can visit with the family. Then when we get home I would like to sneak off to the coast with the whole family one last time before the kids go back to school. Squeezed in between all this is swimming lessons, several trips to Sea World, and weekly craft projects with the kids. UGGH!!!! Well hopefully the kids will look back on these summers with fond memories.

The only vacation I get is a week in July when my youngest sister will be here to take care of my mother. I will still be going to work, but a vacation from taking taking mom to doctor's is good.

During the next two weeks I will be painting rooms-my dad's bedroom we started 18 months ago and our new office and hallway. YEAH!!!! I will also be putting down the vinyl tiles in the office and hall and possibly putting down new carpet in Dad's bedroom. (He's in Texas for the Month. Going to his 60th class reunion.) Have to put the sky paper on his ceiling too.

Then I am going to Drum Major Camp with my oldest daughter. She doesn't do well at things like that. (She went dog sledding in Minnesota, alone on an Outward Bound/Girl Scout Destination, when she was 14 but does not like to go any where these days. ) I will take my stuff to make my blocks for the Hot Block Swap with me to work on while she is at Camp. Gee, 4 days in a Hotel Suite all by myself, what a sacrifice I'm making.:bluesmile

We will get home on Thurs. and leave Friday for Family vacation in south Fla.

Home for a week and then off to a 4 day Teacher Academy for the new school I start at in August. Will have almost 3 weeks after that to prepare before the official start of school planning. Also will have to finish anything not finished during the next two weeks.

I just bought a new car so that took care of the money..I went to Iceland in Nov...However every year my only sister and I go to her cottage and sew, make candles from Beeswax,go out to eat and talk...We do nothing pertaining to house work and eat out because neither of us likes to cook....Then she and her Hubby is off to Australia and a cruise....My husband won' t fly anymore so when I go it's just me....

We have a 16 hour road trip coming up. DH's 25th college reunion is coming up, and we are taking the kids. I'm trying to find fun places to stop along the way. It doesn't help that I dislike staying in hotels.
It was either the road trip or paint the house.

No big trip for us this summer. DS starts college this fall and there's no extra money. Swimming will be our main entertainment this summer and maybe a few trips to the movies with DD or a trip to Six Flags. DS has his own things to do nowadays. He's going camping with his friends next week.
I'm trying to enjoy just being off work, but lately I've been doing housework. I started cleaning windows and blinds yesterday.
Some of DH's family are supposed to come for a visit soon.

Taking the caravan to South Wales in August and then church camp in late August bank Holiday and then back to school in Sept. I don't break up until 20th July. In all this we have daughter and son in law to move down from Preston and other daughter to return to Plymouth for the Uni run.

No plans for the both of us. Dh is going on a 10 day fishing trip starting on the 28th. It's his idea of heaven and mine of hell. He'll be out on a commercial fishing boat going hundreds of miles down/out into Mexico and fishing at all hours of the day and night!  I don't think they could PAY me to do that.

Working on this fricken house is driving us nuts but it's moving along beautifully.

As far as me, I'll just be happy to sew and get the house in order while dh is gone. That's enough for me this year.

Jan, been to Cornwall? Saw a show about it and they stressed how different it is from the rest of England. I mean they have vineyards, surfing and almost a Mediterranean outlook and environment. Looked really nice although very touristy.

I saw that show. Was it Samantha's Brown's Passport to Europe? I would love to go some day. The Travel channel is about as close as I can get right now.

Yep, Bama, that's the one. It was last evening that I saw it along with her show about Munich.

I really enjoy her shows. Guess she's off to South America next. Sure sounds like a fun job to have for few years.

Gosh, listening to those of you who still have kiddies at home..well, I forgot how much work vacation could be...
In two weeks, it's six days in Atlanta for a visit with one of my DD to see her new old-house...(This is my hippie daughter!!! She is fun; but so different from the rest of the family.) Then first week in July, off to Navarre Beach, Fla for a week with other DD and her family...This is relaxing at it's finest for me...White beach, gin and tonics and reading trashy novels...
But the best is the last week in July: for my 60th birthday, I am treating myself to a week at Martha Pullen School in Huntsville, AL. I've never been and can't wait!! I'm signed up for the BEverly Sheldrick school...Soooo excited...
Then in early August, I get to visit Franklin, Tn where my older sister just moved...I understand that it is very charming...
that's my schedule...barring any nasty hurricanes to ruin my plans...

Have you seen "1000 Places to see before You Die"? Now THAT would be a fun job. My son records every episode. I think it's tonight's show where they go to India.

Tony's Mum and Dad live near Penzance in a village a little up the hill from Mousehole. If you go here http://homepage.mac.com/tony.p.hodge/Menu7.html you can find links to some of our MANY holidays in Cornwall - we don't quite get to surfing but had a happy time body boarding in Bude. The sea is just a little bit too cold to not wear a wet suit. Traffic is horrendous to get there - took us 10 hours to drive the 300 or so miles to get to Devon the weekend befor last.- eesh!

Palm trees abound in Cornwall - but only in gardens and the flora is lovely - does tend to be a bit damp though.
