Right now we are having a thunderstorm. Nothing strange about that right, WRONG!!!! This one is coming at us from the NORTHEAST to SOUTHWEST!!!! I don't think I have ever seen a storm do this. Guess it has something to do with a stalled out front along the Atlantic Coast Line that is making it come at us like this.
This Storm is stronger than the one we has last Friday!!!
My flowerbeds sure do like this storm, they have needed a good watering since last Friday.
The weatherman on TV just said that we are under storm warning until 9PM tonight.

Send some rain this way too. We're having a drought and are under voluntary water restrictions. We've been asked to only water 2 days a week with a hose and not use sprinklers at all. And not to wash cars. If we don't get rain soon we'll be under stage 3 and be fined if we use too much water. I hope we get rain soon. If it doesn't dry up, our corn will be ready to pick in a couple of weeks. I picked green beans today. If we're not allowed to spray a little water on the garden twice a week, all of hubby's work will be in vain. He put down some sawdust yesterday to help hold in the moisture.
Some towns near by are already on stage 3 restrictions.

Hey, don't stop there. Give some to Bams and then to Lyn in Phoenix and then make sure there's enough for us. We're only about 6 hours west of Lyn. We've had another record dry year and now it's fire season.

Is that kind of weather the type that produces tornadoes? Do you get those where you are?

Take care and hope you hold on to your power.

Hot & dry here. We are supposed to be breaking records with the higher heat temps, and no rain in sight till Monday. No watering restrictions yet, but I'm sure they'll come as we always have them in July. It's too early to complain about going to the pool everyday, as the kids have only been out for 8 days.

Looks like it is going to be a long summer!:re:

Long, hot, dry summer here too, I'm afraid. It's only 8:45 and it's already 85 or so. The beaches are still in the June Gloom and in the low 60's but we're above that marine layer that's so typical for this time of year.

Only 5 months to go till winter........ Hope my house is still standing when it does get here. :bluesad: Every year this time I get so nervous and have my evacuation gear ready to go. Can't take much as the 7 animals take up most of the space. I just try to get the essentials; the 5 "P's".

People, Pets, Papers, Pills and Pictures

(Luckily there's only 1 "people"-me to worry about. Dh is kinda busy when a fire breaks. )

Crazy! I, too, am in NE Ohio -- yesterday we had some great thunder, but we didn't see a drop of rain or any wind! For you it was worse that last Friday . . . yet last Friday we had sheets of rain, 60 mph wind, and lightning knocked out the security system at the office complex! It was pretty cool watching the storm come through FROM THE WRONG DIRECTION on the radar though!

Shrew1, We where lucky with last weeks storms that most of it blew right over use before it decided to get nasty. We are stuck in that one corner of Summit County that NOTHING ever happens here, BORING!!!!!
Today I have been picking up broken tree limbs that blew off in yesterdays storm. Didn't have any with last Fridays. I also had to close windows yesterday that I NEVER have to close during "regular" storms here.
Today it is just plain ol' hot and muggy here. We could stand and watch the rain pouring down, but it was being blown vertical as it came down. Lots of thunder and lightning with this one also.

It's gloomy and thundering again here today. A storm came in about 4:00 a.m. this morning and it's been sprinkling rain off and on all day. At least it was sunny and dry yesterday when I had a lot of errands (dental appt., dog to vet for shots and bath, etc.). Even my dog is getting depressed with this gloomy weather.

It was 110 driving home this afternoon at 2:30, no water restrictions right now but they always tell people here to conserve water. Fire restrictions have been in place in the Ntl Forests since before May this year and we've already had several fires so it's going to be a loooonnnnggggg hot summer!! It won't cool off much before November

We've had a long wet cool spring and summer so far, which is good, as we also had record snowfall in the mountains and a long hot spell could flood out the valley very badly. But it sure is dreary, with all the overcast and rain we've had. Especially since that's all we have all fall and winter too. I'd like some sun and some heat for a while, I'm getting SAD I think.

Right there with ya, Lyn. We're not quite as hot but it's a good 93 or so today.

We can only keep our fingers crossed once again. No rain till November here either but we do get t-storms in August and Sept. once in a while but then there you are worried about fires caused by lightening.......Can't win for losing..........:re:

Bama, we had a tiny bit of rain yesterday. it was to late for many of the crops in my area. My lawn crunches when we walk on it. The well had some broken pipes and we only water from it instead of paying for expensive county water. DH repaired them this week and the grass sighed a sigh of relief. My dad said they had a fairly good shower this week in Gardendale.

Belinda,
I was just outside Trussville yesterday and there was lots of thunder and lightening. It looked hopeful when a few drops fell from the sky but then it passed over. Nothing back at our house. Now we're under mandatory water conservation. If you go over a certain amount of water use, the 1st time it's a warning, the 2nd is large fines. 3rd time is disconnection. No sprinkler use at all.
Our corn is almost ready to pick. I hope there's enough moisture left in the ground that it won't dry up.

A couple of water conservation tips from Australia (middle of winter here and we still have water restrictions):

1. take a bucket into the shower with you - put it under the shower head while you wait for the water to heat up and then push it to the side while you shower (it will still catch a fair bit of runoff) - you could either use this water to water pot plants or garden beds or half a bucket could be used instead of a toilet flush

2. if you or the kids have a bath don't drain the water - bucket this out to the garden as well (it's also good exercise if you can handle it physically)- lawns especially seem to do well with this sort of water - the phosphates that come in a lot of shampoos/detergents act as a fertiliser

3. grey water usage - put a longer hose connection to your washing machine drain hose and pipe it onto the lawn - this must be done VERY carefully - if the hose is too long you can get back pressure and the water doesn't drain from the washing machine properly and will cause it to break down - there is a lot of info available on the internet for those who care to try and understand plumbing (I leave it all to DH) - do not use this water on vege gardens - unless you buy the sort of detergent that is okay for this (they don't clean as well but are okay for light washing)

4. anytime you need to wait for hot water to leave a tap - have a container nearby to catch the still warming water - it can be used in the kettle, for pet drinking etc.

5. when cleaning your teeth - turn off the tap, fill (or half fill) a glass and only use the tap running for the final toothbrush rinse off

6. buy a little kitchen timer and time your showers - a lot of people are amazed at how long they really take in there

7. replace all your shower heads with low pressure ones (not as nice a shower but uses tons less water)

Thanks Pauline.
I actually started trying the bucket in the shower tip and watered my hanging plants. Today I mopped the hardwood floors and poured the mop water onto one of my hydrangea bushes. If I could just get the rest of my family to help with this. DD is terrible about taking long showers. I keep having to yell at her to turn off the water while she shaves her legs.
Hubby re-routed the washing machine drain last month and it waters our side yard. It's all green over there and over the septic tank. The rest of the yard is mostly brown now.
I dipped water out of our pond yesterday and watered the plants that are near it.
