My son wants board shorts, and I am a bit at a loss as to exactly what kind of fabric is used for these. I know it's usually a 100% polyester, fast drying, sometimes with stretch, but it's a dense weave most of the time. Any ideas as to where to look for this, or even what to look for. Course being a guy, he doesn't want the nice hawaiian flowery shorts, but more masculine type fabric, and I am finding that near impossible to find! HELP!

Sorry, Laura, but I do not know what board shorts are.. And since you are talking about polyester fabric, you cannot mean wooden boards.. LOL...Anyway, I cannot help you.. Sorry..

You might try try emailing a few online fabric stores that sell a variety of types of fabric and tell them what you're looking for. www.fabric.com might be a good place to start. They have a large variety. Maybe Julie at Timmel Fabrics can help you too. |

I take it you're talking about skate board clothing? Most of the kids I've seen skate boarding are wearing baggy pants with the crotch down to their knees and baseball hats on backwards. That's as much as I know about their clothing. Patsy Patsy

I have a pair that matches a bathing suit and are worn for a cover-up over it. The tag was labeled "board shorts". I think most of the time they're made for boys or men. |

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you, my computer decided to crash on me, and now it's at the computer hospital, so I had to set up the sewing one downstairs to get on to the internet. Board shorts are for surfing or wake boarding, and are made out of a fast drying fairly dense fabric. I can find it in flowery fabric, but my 20 something son is not into flowers. Here's a pic for infohttp://www.killerdanasurfshop.com/ Laura

I wanted to make board shorts for my son as well. One lady over on patternreview made hers (http://sewing.patternreview.com/cgi-bin/readreview.pl?reviewnum=19865) using polyester microfiber from Hancock. I asked, but my local Hancock doesn't carry it because it isn't a big seller. The back of Kwik Sew 2693 -swimtrunks states "The swim trunks are designed for light to medium weight woven fabrics such as supplex, nylon and blends, cotton, cotton blends and broadcloth. For the lining use athletic mesh" I did google supplex and there is some at denver fabrics (http://www.denverfabrics.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=SUP), and there is some at fabricline.com (http://www.fabricline.com/supplex2.html) that looks pretty good. There are all sorts of nylon fabrics (http://www.beaconfabric.com/vindex.html?cat48.htm) (maybe okay for swimtrunks?) at beacon fabrics. I know it would difficult to be sure if it is what you desire unless you have a swatch of some sort, but perhaps you can start there. |

I'm wearing some right now, they are very smooth on the inside, not quite as smooth on the outside, very durable material. Please do put up pictures when you finish the project, I'm very interested. |
