Has anyone found anything new and different in the quilting world? I haven't tried it....YET :re: , but in my area they are making toothbrush rugs. Just curious as to what else is out there.

Yes, the toothbrush rug is simular to a rag rug. It originated years ago when ladies used the handle of an old toothbrush that was shaped to a point where the bristles once were. The hole in the handle was the "eye of the needle". Once started, it is pretty much a blanket stitch with 2.5" inch strips.

Does anyone else have new ideas to share?

Donna....new things with quilting? Hmmmmmmm..... tough question there....

I saw a French Patchwork magazine that a friend of mine had purchased from a shop in North Carolina and it is one that I would love to have a subscription. They had some very pretty illustrations that would make great quilt designs on their own. The color sense for the magazine was very different than American quilts and the quilts were more adventurous in their fabric selections.

Being a very traditional quilter, I have enough inspiration adapting old designs and patterns for new quilts and I'm not really up on all the slice and dice, or other methods of reconfiguring patterns in novel ways.

Other than new fabric lines, I really haven't seen many new things or ideas.................

Oh wait, I saw a really cute idea for a birthday card. It was from Meghan's blog at www.zandsfabrics.com and she made a little book for her friend's 21st birthday using 21 buttons.

I'll see my friends today.....maybe I'll ask them and see what they come up with.

It is funny "what goes around comes around" I remember the toothbrush rug from when I was young. A friend of my Aunts from Herman MO. was doing it one time when we visited. She said one of the older women in the area had shown her how to make the rag rugs like they had years before when they had to make do with what they had. That was more than 40 years ago (I guess I'm getting old) but I cherish the wonderful memories of all the time I spent with my Aunt. I know I can thank her for my appreciation of fine handwork and lovely fabric.
