Hi all, I have allways wanted to learn to sew, now that my oldest is wanting to learn, It time I do. We got her a cheap sewing machine for christmas, And together we made a pillow. If fell apart 2 weeks later, but we did it. So in a nut shell I'm a SAHM who wants to learn for myself and so I can teach my oldest. I welcome any advice to get me started in right direction.

You'll learn a lot here! What part of the country are you located in? I'm in North Florida.

Hi Becky - welcome to two generations of new sewers. How old is your daughter? There are plenty of small projects on the site here to get you started - come and ask if you get stuck.

Ty all for warm welcome, We are frome Delaware. My oldest is 9. I have my eye on a sewing machine, it should only take me about 5 weeks to save for it. Right now we are practicing with paper, and Daughters toy machine, learning to sew in a straight line, and curves. Pretty fun to watch her sew on paper, she loves it.

Hi Becky and welcome to the group. Maybe you can find some sewing books at your local library to familiarize yourself with the terminology and get some basic directions. Sorry that your DD's pillow fell apart. Good luck on getting a sewing machine that both of you can use. There are many on the market in all price ranges. Sewing with my DD is a lot of fun. However, now that she is headed to college, I can sew for myself.
