This quilt is for my little granddaughter Emily that was born in Oct and I never got around to making her memory quilt like I did for the others. So here it is a little late but she's getting it.

Thank you for the compliments. The fabric is called Baby Genius. The colors are suppose to stimulate the babies mind making them very smart. I don't know if it works but I like the colors too.

Yes Patsy it was done on my new long arm. It was actually the very first quilt I completed on the long arm. The rest of the things I did on the new machine was practice pieces I made from cheap sheets I got at Walmart. I made a quilt for my hubby because he was so good about bring me to Texas and getting the machine and setting it up for me that I had to make him one first. When I get it on the machine I'll post some pics.

Susie....what a great quilt. I love the bright happy colors you chose from the Baby Genius line rather than just the white and black.

Did you enjoy using your long arm? You did a great job.

Vicki,

I printed the photo's on my ink jet printer and I used June Tailor fabric sheets and they are color fast and washable. Print out the photo on the sheet like you would ordinary photos. Then peel off the paper backing and soak in water or a few minutes until the water soaks in the fabric. then I took the iron and pressed the pics to set the ink in the fabric (press the fabric don't smear it just press the iron down and up) and then they were ready to cut into the circles and sew on the fabric. I placed the photos down just like an appliqué, I used a product called Appli-Kay by Floriani. It's like Steam a seam only this product you can iron it on the photo and then peel off the paper backing and then stick it to the quilt and it holds there until you get it exactly where you want it and then iron it down and it's permanent.

Mary, My husband surprised me that he sat there and listened to me learn how to use this machine and didn't say a word for the 5 hours we were there. Then he came home and it took him all day to rig up the frame and machine and level it for me. Of course this is the same man that has been spoiled by me the first 38 years of our marriage so I guess he figures it's my turn. :dave:

Thanks everyone. I had to share that with you all because you all know that just a little while ago I didn't know the first thing about quilting. I couldn't use a rotary cutter and now I'm making quilts. I have to say I'm very proud of myself.

I don't get much done around here except fix something to eat throw a load of wash in the wash and sweep up all the thread that's drug around the house on my feet when I'm sewing. I just finished vaccuming and it was a job. The thread was everywhere. It's 2:15AM and I'm off to bed. My dear friend is coming in the morning to put a quilt on and try it out. I finished Raymond's quilt tonight and I must say even with the little boo boo's I made it looks great. Now I have to bind it and he gets to use it. He's my biggest fan, I have to laugh and I get a kick out of him he comes in there as I'm quilting and says, "It's coming out good but I see where you have to do this...................." Between he and I we are going to get this quilting down pat.
I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

I am Pauline but now I'm stuck. I don't want to start anything now with the new baby close because I'll have to drop everything and go take care of the 2 year old for a week or two. And I'm not feeling good right now about myself because I've been on an eating binge for the last two weeks and can't seem to get back on track:bang: . I think it's the anxiety I'm feeling right now with the baby and all. Sewing is my sanity but I don't like to start anything without finishing it and if I start it now it will be on hold for a while so I won't start anything until this baby gets here. :bluewink:

I don't know how you feel about projects with handwork, but I have used them to maintain my sanity when my life was in flux. One time when a house was on the market for a major multi state move,I did a quilt with a lot of applique blocks. I cut out every thing and had all my pieces and backgrounds ready and sorted in separate ziplocs for each block. In that quilt the blocks were the same just the colors different so I just used a vinyl overlay for placement, but basting etc. would work.
This worked well for me because it kept my house clean. No sewing room messes and stray thread through-out the house, and when the agent would call and give 5 minute notice on a showing I could grab my bag of sewing on the way out of the house ,to do until the showing was over.
I also took the blocks with me when I was traveling between the two states.
It helped me keep my sanity and gave me some much needed me time, even if it was only for 15 or 20 minutes before I went to sleep..

Hi Suze, but aren't you just getting too big for your britches!! Do you think that I wear green (jealousy) well?? Girl, I may just have to take a ride up I-55 and check you out!! I've been on the road since the end of April; going to Martha Pullen at the end of the month, then Tennessee for about 10 days in August...Maybe THEN I can try quilting again..(barring any of those H-words..)
Can we look into the magic ball and see if I have a longarm in the future??? Hope springs eternal...

Your quilts are great! I love the Kansas Troubles fabrics you are using - I am doing two quilts now in their "Bound to the Prairie" lines. I too have a long-arm and am just getting used to it. Even though I am a new quilter I didn't want to send my quilts out to be done - I had a need to do the whole thing - I'm just glad my husband agreed with me enough to fork out the cash.

you all know that just a little while ago I didn't know the first thing about quilting. My goodness, Suzie, I am just now catching up to this thread. I saw the topic of your post and I thought, "Oh, but she just started quilting about a minute ago!" Look at you go! And it is clearly something you're running with if you found it worth your while to get a longarm. I am pleased and proud of you. I'm working on my first quilt right now, so your post is a wonderful inspiration to me. I brought what I've done so far to a quilt shop today, and the woman showed me, ever so delicately, how some of my points would get sewn off into my seam allowances. I told her, "Well, that's alright, I'm alright with being a beginner." It's so nice starting this, b/c so many people--here and in the fabric shops--have been so encouraging and have a wealth of pointers to offer. I really like the work you've been doing, Suzie.

Dorothy, I love hand work but if I did that my 2 yr old granddaughter would have everything around here sewn up before I knew it. This is going to be a job with me taking care of her. She's quick and I'm slow and she's smarter than me. So it's going to be a challenge me watching her for a few days. Good thing I have my grandson that will be with us he's almost 14 so he'll be a big help. She's a handful for her Mom and Dad and they are young.
Girl, I may just have to take a ride up I-55 and check you out!!
Paula, well come on up!!! I have a gang coming up from my quilt shop on Friday to see my new toy. I'm loving it girl!!! I can't make the quilts fast enough to suit me.
Even though I am a new quilter I didn't want to send my quilts out to be done - I had a need to do the whole thing - I'm just glad my husband agreed with me enough to fork out the cash.
Suzan, I'm new too and I have a husband just like that too. He supports me with all my little pleasures. It's about time .........when we were raising the boys I didn't have money to buy myself anything so now it's my time.
"Well, that's alright, I'm alright with being a beginner."
Andrea, We all had to start everything as a beginner but then we learn from our mistakes and it takes practice and practice until we get better and better and then we can help the other beginners start off. It's a cycle of sewing and quilting. I love my machine and my husband has been so supporting with this I was really surprised at how much he's interested in me doing this. I guess that's whey I took off so much with it I have lots of encouragement at home and at the local quilt shops and of course I can't forget all you wonderful people.

Susie, I understand the, they faster than I am part. I have small great nieces and nephews who are over a lot and they are faster than greased lightening!!!! and I am slowing down also!! As far as being smarter... I figured this one out when mine were small. They only have one thing on their mind and that is what ever happens to be their particular goal at that moment. You on the other hand have a thousand things on your mind from what you have to fix for the next meal to who needs what, what do you need at the grocery , who has a doctors appt., Is the ac acting up , who has their nose out of joint about something, etc. If you could only focus on one thing, like they do, the playing field would equal out. LOL
