I have been sewing up tops for summer. The ones I favour have a button up front with collar and neckband. I am having mixed results sewing the band to the shirt. Sometimes the neckband is not exactly meeting the front edge of the blouse. Any tips on getting it just right. I know there is just some little thing I am not doing right.

I'm no expert, Mary, but whenever I have little problems like that, I resort to a quick basting by hand. I find it holds everything in place so there is no shifting, and I can see before I put the permanent stitching in if the pieces are fitting together nicely. If they aren't, I can redo it without fooling around with a lot of pins, and without having to rip out lots of machine stitching. I hear a lot of sighs out there  ...but hand-basting really saves me a lot of time and agony.

Also, on collars, I usually either stitch from center to edges, or I will fit the edges and stitch those first, then ease the rest of it afterwards. It seems to work a lot better, for some reason.
Take care,
Donna

I had a real problem with getting collars, bands and facings to all line up until someone here pointed out I could start from the center and sew to the edge then start at the center and sew to the other end.
It worked great.
Even with my Pfaff's extra little foot it was pulling so I was about 1/8 inch off.
That was my problem -- yours could be something different.
Pam will know, I'm sure.

Starting in the middle helped me , also.. One other thing was to mark the dot where the seams meet at the neck, which helps a lot also.. I put a pin thru each dot and am very careful there..
