On June 5th, I was hospitalized again with bronchial pneumonia, kidney failure, and heart failure. My labs were off the charts according to my doctor. First after 9 hours in the ER, I was placed in the Renal Failure unit as the doctors and nurses worked to re-hydrate me and to drain off some of the excess fluid around my heart. Then as my kidneys started to function again, I went into heart failure as my b/p dropped to 55/30. They thought I was a goner. Moved to ICU for 5 days to get my heart stabilized, keep the kidneys working, and to give high powered antibiotics and oxygen for the pneumonia. As I improved, I was sent to the cardiac unit until I was stable enough to go home. It sure was a happy day when I was released from the hospital. Now, I have new meds, gout included, plus have to give myself daily insulin injections. All of the above caused my diabetes to flare up. With all of this going on, I managed to start hand embroidering some pillowcases around the IV's in both arms. Now, I am spotted with bruises from the IV's and will have some pretty new pillowcases for Christmas gifts. It's good to be back home again as I missed my laptop while in the hospital.

On a happier note, DD turned 19 yesterday and she came home for the weekend. We celebrated by my cooking her favorite meal and then we surprised her with a new laptop computer, gift cards, swimsuit and perfume. She claimed it was the best birthday ever. I am sure glad that I didn't have to miss it.
Happy Stitching!

Oh Marty! How lucky you are to still be here. Bet you're feeling weak. Glad to see the optimism in your words. :bluesmile

Being diabetic absolutely makes any health condition much worse than it would be for a non-diabetic. May I ask what caused these problems if I'm not being too rude?

So happy to see you again and good luck for a speedy complete recovery.

Marty

Where there's a will, there's a way. Your determination to sew is obviously strong - same sort of determination that got you home no doubt. Probably a good thing you couldn't have your laptop with you - you might not have been in so much of a hurry.

Glad you enjoyed your dd's birthday - but may I ask why it was you cooking? I hope they're looking after you properly. Take care of yourself and get better soon.

BTW I hear that giving up beer will really help with gout. :bg:

I just posted the above and then saw all the new posts - you really have been missing your laptop haven't you.

Pauline if she's anything like me cooking is just what the doctor orders. When I cook for someone it's like therapy for me. I love to cook and cooking would have made me feel whole again if I were in her shoes.

Glad to see you back Marty. I'm glad they got all your meds straighten out and you are on the mend now. Keep in touch and I'll be keeping you in my prayers. Hugs
I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

No - I have no emotional attachment to cooking at all -
I'll try and get out of cooking if I have a splinter.

I am so glad to hear you are ok. Hand embroidery around two IV's is what you call determination to sew.

For those of you who may not be familiar, here is a brief background on Marty and some of her generous sewing expertise she shares with us. It is a bit outdated but still relevant.

Marty,
I'm glad you're back and doing better. Please take care of yourself so you'll be around for many more years.
It's just like a determined sewer to think about stitching even with IVs in her arms. :bg:

Well Mary - thanks very much for stuffing up my day. :bg: :bg: I have to tear myself away now to go and buy some food for my family.

Every time I think I've found everything there is to find on this site I'm mistaken. It's a great set of articles you've written Marty - I haven't gone through them in detail but I particularly liked the pants fitting one. Do I really have to measure my thighs sitting down though?

If you can post pictures I'd be interested to see the embroidery on the pillow cases. I'm hoping to one day get an embroidery machine but in the meantime have been playing about with hand embroidery a little.

Thank you everyone for the well wishes. Most of my health problems are hereditary. I had my first stroke at the young age of 24. Now, 30 years later, I'm still struggling.

I cooked dinner for my DD as DH had driven the 300 mile round trip to bring her home for the weekend. I had dinner ready when they arrived home. The next day, DH drove the 300 miles round trip to take her back to camp. He's a sweetheart and will do anything to make us happy.

Yes, Pauline, it is important to take your thigh measurement sitting down as our thighs spread when we sit as does our backsides.

Connie, thank you so much for your kind comments. I learn so much from this group.
Happy Stitching!

On Monday, July 9th, I had to call an ambulance to come take me to the hospital because of heart failure and B/P issues. DH met us in the emergency room. They admitted me to the cardiac unit and I got to come home today. My meds had to be switched around but the test results were good. It is so good to be home again.
