Sounds like a fun job. And I live near Birmingham. Too bad dedicated quilter and fabric lover aren't the only qualifications.

I kind of wonder about a "great company" that advertises for employees on Internet lists and doesn't mention the name of the company, don't you?

I remember Karen Combs from the GEnie online group from early 90's. I don't think Karen would associate her name or help someone who wasn't up to par.

Many jobs such as this are through networking. I think it is great the word is out to quilters. Case in point....have you ever had a sales rep try to sell you a line of fabric telling you what he thinks rather than giving you ideas and applications for the fabric to be used in your shop?

Many fabric lines now come with directions for quilts just using the specific prints. It is really a big selling point for new quilters who are not confident in selecting their own prints, but want to sew something. What could be better than a quilter pumping up the pros or even cons of a fabric line and suggesting other fabric lines that would work well together.

I think Windham/Baum is a relatively new line for quilters with their Quilt Shop Only line and then reproduction prints by Margo Kruger of Billings, Montana. I think representing a company such as that would be exciting!

I had gotten a great job from internet networking and as a result they featured my quilt at Houston one year and it was even in their publication - and it was an Art Quilt of all things.

Why don't you inquire Bama; nothing lost in asking. You can always do some internet searches on the company once you find it out.

Thanks Mary for taking the time to pass along the information.

I answered this posting in March and I LOVE MY JOB!! I have been in professional sales for a long time and life long sewing/quilter person...ok, I have only "quilted" about 2 years but I have always loved fabrics ...the whole nine yards. It is a SALES position tho. YOu do have to schedule your appts, drive long distances to cover your territory, manage your business, control your expenses, etc. This allows me to combine my love of fabrics with my love of sales. I am having a blast! There are so many great shops out there! I learn from them too!

By the way, you miss great opportunities by being suspicious of job postings that don't mention the company name.....due to the competitive nature of this business and others, companies don't always post their names. Having scanned Monster.com, careerbuilder.com for years, I am always suspicious of the jobs/companies that are always repeating the same job opening 2-3 times a year. It just tells me that the job is a high turnover position for whatever reason. That puts me off! If it is a sales position, not everyone who takes the job is cut out for sales. My 2 cents....sandy

I guess my job has made me a bit cynical, but delighted when proven wrong.
I've also been lucky enough not to have to deal with the job market for many years. But it is hard for me to imagine applying for a job and not even know who I am applying to. That could be because people in my line of work (journalism) tend to question everything -- including, as you say, the amount of turnover.
I would think that something like that would have a high turnover because a lot of people would be enamored by the product and not realize that they are, as you said, just not cut out for sales.

Still, it's my nature to ask:

Who did you say you work for?

Dorothy, great question!

I work for the same company Karen Combs works with. I am amazed that a "journalism" major did not "google" Karen Combs. You will find your answer!

I certainly didn't mean to offend you but like I said with my "journalism" major -- those quotes, by the way, are extremely offensive. I just thought it was strange that in this day of Internet rip offs the company didn't put its name in the ad. I'm willing to admit it was a mistake to question and stand corrected. I guess in your "sales" field it is the way things are done.

Dorothy, I was not offended and I did not mean to offend you either. I was just having a little fun. My sister is in journalism and she is very inquisitive about everything. I have a little fun with her at times!

And, you are correct! Thanks for posting the website!
