Well friends, I have my spandex fabric and have printed a pattern for a swimsuit for DGD. she is twelve and will die if the suit makes her look flat chested so I have ordered pushup bra cups and swimsuit linning to give her a little confidence. The pattern is from Wildginger's Childsplay. It is a mailot/tank suit not made for a built in bra . I suppose I need to slash and spread the pattern to make a little room for the cups. I will slash the pattern at the breast level to the center of the breast and then slash upward to the neck and pivot the pattern at the neckline or should I just slash at center breast level from side to side and just move it up a small amount to give the needed amount. I could gather the fabric at the sides this way and wouldn't need to pivot at the neck. I think this is better. I need opinions. The ordered stuff hasn't arrived yet so I am just working with the pattern right now. My husband just said he would donate a t shirt for a muslin. Belinda |

In the Kwik sew swimwear and active wear book - they draw a line perpendicular to the centre front half way between the armhole and the side notch spread the pattern apart 1/2" for each cup size. Then they draw a line from the underarm curve probably to where you know the bust point is, cut and spread this 1/2" for each cup size. When you do this the side seam is out of whack so you need to re draw a curve line - this gives you the extra fabric to gather to accomadate the bust. Clear as mud ?? Sorry must dash trinny and Sussanne of what not to wear new series for us - T and S undressed hopefully it is not a repeat showing |

I made a test swimsuit today and tried the pushup bra cups in it. It was stretched pretty tight I forgot to make the alteration for the bra. I was lucky enough to find some really stretchy fabric to make the test garment. I bought 6 yards. It will make good panties if any is left after I Finish fiddeling around. How many pairs of peach panties could anyone need? Oh, maybe Christmas gifts! |

Skye, I think it will fit her with the 1/2 inch in length added and the extra 1/2 inch at the armscye to make room for the bra. I cut a 5/8 inch seam allowance and will probably only use 1/4 inch instead. that should give enough room. My worrry is the linning with the bra. It seams that the instructions are more complicated than necessary. Why cant I just cut the linning the same as the suit and stitch in the cups??? |
