Hello, Does anyone think the prices on Ebay are legit for these cards? For instance, right now there is a Disney card with the film stars selling for $19.99 with free shipping.
Taste of Disney also for $19.99 with $5.00 shipping.
I have noticed most of them are being sold by the same person,, with 99.5% good feedback. Some are brand new, and some say "lovingly used". I think it seems too good to be true as I have seen these selling for much more on other internet sites. I guess I just want someone else to say "Stay away" !!!:bluesmile Thanks

not sure, at the dealer the cards are about $100, however the cards you mention are older ones, been around for 5 years or so and there may be lots of them out there, sorry that was not much help eh?

The problem is that the price is way too good. There are ways to break the encryption. If that has been done and you purchase those cards, the dreaded Embroidery Collition can come for you. At the very least you could loose your card and $300...at the very most, you could loose everything you have/use for embroidery and pay a penalty...and maybe a little worse. They are hitting the people who purchase, not the people who are selling (sound like a racket? It probably is...) At any rate, most of the major design companies are involved....and DISNEY is the worst!!! I'm not even 100% sure that Disney is using the collition or if they are just doing it on their own. $100 And peace of mind is a whole lot better than looking over your shoulder forever. There are people who have been "hit" years after the purchase, some don't even remember that they did purchase.

I have purchased Disney cards off Ebay but they were new and from a dealer who also had a website. The cards were inexpensive . . . not $19.99 more like $29.99 because they were on clearance. The sellers you are referring to are probably selling their own old cards. If you search Ebay for Disney cards, look for actual machine dealers who have websites and visit the clearance sections of those sites. I've found some good deals on BRAND NEW merchandise. Selling used embroidery designs (Disney or any other company) is forbidden but people do it anyway.

What is the Embroidery Coillition?? And just wondering, how can a person be liable if they buy an old, used card? I mean,, there isn't a number amount set on the designs, that you can't go over (is there?). How is it any different from buying old used merchandise from .. say "Goodwill, or Salvation Army"?? thanks.

All Disney cards are encryped so that they will only play on Brother D machines. If the encryption is broken the CD is not a legitimate card. The exception is the Taste of Disney card which will play on only certain brand machines.

Many people have been making a fortune making CD's copies of designs, etc...and selling them on EBay. Often these designs look legitimate but when they arrive they may not be...if they are not, you can be in serious trouble.

The Embroidery Software Collition is a representative group of various digitizers, large and small, who have been looking for pirated designs. They often will track the EBay sales and then go after and threaten the clients to whom the seller has sold products. Often, for some reason, the seller seems to go on selling, although that may not be true. In some cases, they just seize the records of the seller and then send threatening letters to those who have bought from them..many of the buyers SAY that they have not bought any designs on E-Bay. They tell you to sign papers saying you will not do this again and send them $300...or they threaten with court. There have been all kinds of stories about whether or not these cases have gone to court and how legal this whole thing is..no one knows what happens to the money either. It is just a terrible mess and one that you want to stay away from.

At the same time, Disney itself is going after all manner of people who have purchased pirated designs and illegally digitized designs and they have won mulitple suits in court...and not all of their suits have been against large offenders either. Unless you know what you are buying, you do not want to get into this.

There are designs which, when purchased are licensed only to the person who initially purchase the design. Those particular designs may not be sold by the purchaser. Matter of fact, some of those designs are licensed only to the address to which they were first sold. It is not legal to ever sell designs. Now, selling cards is really a little on the fringe anyway as most designs say that they cannot be sold, traded, or shared. At the same time, if the seller has in any way kept the designs, as in downloading even one of them on their computer? They are clearly in violation.

I have a huge collection of licensed OESD designs. According to the design information, they are mine and the cards and CD's cannot be sold. I called and asked what my husband should do with them when I die. Aparently, at that point, it will be fine for him to sell them...but according to them, I cannot legally sell them.

I think there was one old "Taste of Disney" that would work on any Brother - but that was the only one.
Since I don't approve of the tactics of going after the unwitting buyer, I wouldn't buy a machine with any of the Disney stuff on it no matter what. They do have the right to protect the copyright, but find the hacker that's cracking the cards and shut him/her down. The PC6500 didn't have any built in designs.
