I finally finish DD's(15YO) dress for nephew's wedding on Sat. Here is a picture http://s111.photobucket.com/albums/n159/Momofsix2006/Sewing/?action=view&current=IM001365.jpg It looks better on Maybe I can get a picture on Sat. She is being a difficult teenager these days about pictures. The pattern is simplicity 4531 http://www.simplicity.com/dv1_v4.cfm?design=4531 with a few adjustments. The back was to narrow so I had to cut a second 1. The darts didn't sit quite right so a few adjustments on those. Then she didn't like where the waistline sat so we raised that closer to the bustline. The sash is supposed to tie in the front but we both like that better in the back. I still have the bag to sew but that shouldn't take long as I don't have to fit it. Then to start sewing my dress ( at least it its cut out) & shop for shoes. Lucky for my I don't have DGSs for the next 2 days.

Lovely dress and pretty fabric, Barb. I admire your patience. I got a bit of a giggle tho. The pattern is exactly the type that I wore when I was 15. I am now 66! Hope you sew comfortably and are pleased with your own dress. Good luck.

Well, that is just beautiful. What type of fabric is that? It looks kind of silky, but not real shiny. I love it.

Dorothy it was one of the silky dress fabrics on sale at Jo Anns last week. I don't remember the actual name it is very soft but not super shiny. It washes very nicely.
She picked out the same print in red but they only had 2 yds & the pattern called for 2 1/2 so she settled for the blue. I didn't tell her I cut the whole thing out of 2 yds before I had to cut a new back.

I plan on sewing most of the day tomorrow then going out looking for shoes. I measured myself very carefully before I cut my dress out so I hope it fits right. It is kind of hard to fit when your bust is 2 sizes smaller than waist & hips but your shoulders are wide I had to make adjustments to all the pieces.

Such a cute dress and so "in" for today's teens. Congrats on such a good job. Your DGD should love it.

Thanks Marty but it is my daughter not granddaughter. & she loves it except that I can't get 1 of the darts right & it puckers a little I will try again later but I needed a breakfrom it (I think 1 or 2 hand stitches might work.
I have been working on the top to my dress & boy am I glad I basted it & tried it on before serging. First I found I cut the 2 fronts out wrong so instead of wrapping to the left it goes to the right. I don't think anyone else will notice. But there were really funky wrinkles because I don't have enough cleavage so I took out the basting & pinned it so it fit then basted again It looks pretty good now. There is still 1 fold but it looks like it should be there (they are on the pattern). Now to serge & then add the skirt. I may look for a better bra to go under it when we are shopping tomorrow.
