My husband has had a series of strange health complaints over the years. In the last few his big complaints have been phlebitis (about 15 years) and now high blood pressure. They have put him on BP meds but he was having a strange reaction to them. I tried to get him to go to the doc but HIS doc was OOT for a month and he didn't want to see anyone else. About two weekends ago he had something that seemed a bit like heatstroke when he was working outside, except that the symptoms were not quite right. He has been ill ever since. Sunday afterward he was feeling very sick. He took himself off the BP meds until TUes when he could see the doc's assoc. (The assoc was NOT happy). Anyway, on Wed they will do an MRI to see if he is brain damamged (I know the answer to that). However, really they will be looking for symptoms of a stroke. With the BP problems and his phlebitis, they are afraid that he may have had a stroke. He just turned 55. He is also needing cataract surgery...

Hi Pam. It must feel awful to think about all of this regarding someone you love. Certainly this work-up will help them sort out what has been going on. Then they can get his medication regimen straightened out so that he can be well, and live well, down the line. I hope to hear of a good experience Weds.

I'll be OK through the MRI. If there is something there...well, I don't know how we'll handle it. My family is all gone but we have 3 children, twins, 19 and a daughter 22. His dad is also living. Our oldest will be bringing her daughter to stay with us (again) and go to school on Aug 3. Hopefully whatever they find will be something that just requires medication. We really need for him to be working for at least another year so that he can retire with full benefits. If he doesn't reach retirement and something would happen, I would get a lump sum settlement for his retirement and not be allowed to collect a retirement. He just got a promotion and things have been looking very bright. Hopefully this is just a minor bump in the road.

Pam. you know I'm right here in Midwest City if you need me for anything all you have to do is yell or better yet, call me on the telephone. My phone number is listed under my dh's name but I think both our names are there but you can call me at work at any time. You can get the AG direct number as you know just about anywhere. Let me know as soon as you get any results. Hopefully, it will just be his medication that is not working properly. As far as catarat surgery goes, Dr. Korber at Eye Care Assocaites is one of the best in town. He did mine and I've not had any problems at all and that is one of the fastest surgeries you can imagine (approx. 12.5 minutes total to due a lens replacement. Anway, I'll be praying for Ken.

I appreciate your concern. His cataract is the result of cortisone drops they used because of some other weird eye condition he has (go figure). He's a mess but fortunately, most of it is pretty treatable. Hopefully this will be too. I'm a little nervous and concerned but right now I feel like everything is pretty much in control..there'll be time to really worry if they find something, if not, worry won't help anyone. At least he is feeling a little better with the change of BP meds. He was having some discomfort that was more than a concern before. It doesn't help that two of our friend's husbands are having heart trouble. One is our age. They are giving him tests tomorrow to figure out what to do...the other is older but he went in last week with discomfort and was told he was a heart attack waiting to happen..ended up with a tripple by-pass.

There are an amazing number of side effects you can get from medication. Here's hoping that is all he is suffering from. Will be thinking about you on Wednesday and keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well.

Best wishes for you both.

Pam, when it comes to heart disease there is so much more that can be done as an outpatient as opposed to hospitalization. If the doctors thought it was a medical emergency, your beloved husband would already have had these tests done. Here's hoping and praying for a positive outcome for your family. I'm just a click away and you can phone me at any time. If you want to email me privately, I'll be glad to share my phone number with you. I'm home 95% of the time.

Pam, Only hoping the best for YOU & YOURS. This getting older stuff isn't for sissys. Soon you'll be past all of this & know what's going on with your DH .

It's the NOT knowing that just puts you in a dither. You know what they say about worrying..... it's like a rocking chair, it gives you something to do but it doesn't get you anywhere.

I had cataract surgery when I was 44. They told me I was way too young to need it. I had no family history of cataracts & no other illnesses that cause them. It's the simplest/fastest surgery I've ever had, it's just so hard to try to controll that blink reflex.

Prayers & Positive Wishes

Two of my cousins who are in their early 70's are the longest surviving caract surgery patients..and they were also the youngest to have it done (which is why they are the longest surviving.) I think my cousin said they were in their late 20's when it was done, but my side of the family has a long history of diabetes and cataract. My mother is the only one of the six who survived to adulthood that did not contract diabetes. My grandfather also had it and was blind from cataract surgery. My mom was a big proponet for the surgery. She always said it was the easiest and most worthwhile surgery she ever had.

I just wasn't prepared for my husband to start falling apart so young. We went through a bout of what was thought to be Lupus when he was 28. As it turned out, it is a Lupus related disease but not nearly as serious. He even lost most of his hair right after we got married when we were 21. He has had leg circulation problems since his mid-20's. I guess I should have expected there to be more problems (early) down the road. I just thought that we'd be in our rocking chairs before it got serious. Most of the people in my family fell apart in the last 10-15 years of their life and they lived to ripe old ages.

My experience with a husband that is not feeling well or that has had surgery is that he is either the biggest baby on earth and I don't understand because I've never been this sick or hurt this bad or he won't do anything the doctors tells him to do because it won't help anyway. :bluesmile

His mother was a hypocondriac so he has a little of that. However, he gets scared to death and won't go to the doctor, esp. if he needs to go and then he is a baby if they find something wrong. I don't know which is worse.

Thinking of you and your family, Pam. I think waiting for results is the worse part of any illness or treatment.

When it all settles down remind your husband that it is better to know than to worry and not know. Men are so poor in attending to their health. Remind your husband (and yourself) that Roosevelt said that the greatest fear is fear itself. Unless, of course, R. was not admired - the thought is a good one tho.

Do let us know how things turn out.

Hugs

Thank you all for your concerns and prayers. It worked! The doctor seems to think that his problems were the result of the heat (I still think it had as much to do with his medications...but whatever...it works). He thinks that Ken will continue to have a few "problems" through the summer but should continue to mend. His blood pressure is over the moon and they are working to get that under control but other than that the doctor has pronounced him healthy, well, except for the blood clots in his legs...but overall he is in very good condition right now!!! Thank you all soooooo much!!!! This would have been a really rotten time for him to break down!

I'm sure all the stress of waiting and thinking of all the possible "what ifs" had something to do with his high blood pressure.
Sorry, I got onto this thread late - glad to hear he is feeling better! :bg:
Were you able to get a good night's rest after getting your dh's test results? There are alot of us out there that when something is wrong our minds keep spinning and we can't fall asleep.

It did help to hear the news. I don't sleep well at night anyway because of my back (and my new bad knee) but it did rather ease the mind. Whatever his health condition the doctor knew just what to say. He has really eased his mind and that is the most important thing! A good outlook can be the very best medicine even with the worst of illnesses! This has been a bit of a stresser and with my family gone and my kids away...and my Bible Study group hasn't been meeting through this time because almost the entire group was on vacation at the same time...so it's been a bit harder than usual. It means so much that you all took such a personal interest.

I've spent most of this week preparing for the return of my 5 yr old dgd for kindergarten. Her mom is planning to be back around the first of the year to stay for good (yeah!) I think she'll stay with us until she gets her life back on track a bit and then she'll look for a place to stay. I guess we've moved from the sandwich generation to the revolving door generation now.

Pam glad to hear that Ken is going to be okay. My dh just went through hip surgery (bursectomy) and it was stressful so I know how you've been feeling. Anyway, it's time for the Okie girls to set a date and get together for a gab fest. I have to make a run to Hennessey tomorrow to take my 2056 back. The needle threader broke off and I'm lost without it. I was shocked when I went to use it and it had disappeared and I didn't realize how much I've come to rely on that little gadget affixed to all but a couple of my machines.

I never even use mine. The people at Bernina think I'm nuts.

You bought your machine in Hennessey? Why? Have all the Pfaff dealers closed around here? I know that the two that were in business when I bought mine are both gone (French Seam and the one in MWC.)

Yep, we need to get together. The Hobby Lobby is looking pretty vacant right now. There are a lot of sales. I asked the lady what was going on and she pointed out that they had rearranged things and made them more space effecient. She says they have a TON of fabrics coming. It always makes me nervous when I see space in a fabric department right now.

Pam I bought my Pfaff from Prairie Quilt (Randa Parrish) in Hennessey because the people at Fun to Sew on the south side (used to be at 74th & Western) they've moved their store to Moore recently are snots. They are very, very rude both on the phone and when you go in the store and I really don't intend to spend $3,000+ dollars with people who are rude and hateful. I would rather drive to Hennessey any day as to be treated the way people at Fun to Sew treat people, especially people who spend big bucks in their store.

Excellent reason. When will people who work with the public learn to be "nice" to their customers?

I used to take car reservations. The management was so "snotty" toward the reservation people. I heard the VP of the company lay them low one time, reminding them that without the reservationists there would be no jobs there, and he proceeded to give them a nice dressing down.

With all the sewing dealerships closing all over and the internet, you'd think people would learn, wouldn't you?

Oh my - I thought it was just me with the Pfaff dealer that is now in Moore. They were VERY condescending with my questions.
I was worried about our Norman Hobby Lobby with fabrics, but the lady there said they had just not worked out the bugs since they relocated.
I think the next few Saturdays are looking pretty good on this end. Ya'll pick a date!!

Sorry Pam and Susan. I didn't answer today because I haven't been able to log in at work lately. I have a new password and can't remember what it is when I'm at work. Anyway, I only have 19 more days and we can get together and gab, play or whatever we want to, whenever we want to and we all have the time. Anyway, the only Saturday I have free this month is August 25. Otherwise it's back to Hennessey to trade out my machine again for mine that they are fixing the needle threader on tomorrow (Randa Parrish gave me her personal 2056 to sew on this week); then next Saturday is an all day sew in with the quilt group at my church (you ladies are welcome to join if you'd like). We have a lady coming to teach stack n' whack quilts. I have mine cut out (for over a year now) but have never had the time to cut the setting blocks or sew anything together; and then August 31st (Friday is retirement day and party for me at my office and then Saturday Sept. 1 is the OSU/Georgia game (televised nationally) that if I miss my dh will send back the tickets he bought for the first home game the following Saturday. Football season is upon us ladies. And then then we leave on vacation (Sept. 8 or 9) for at least a week and a half. After that it's a 2 day quilt camp and then we're into October already.

Thanks for the info on the games! I think I have to buy a pair of Dockers' for my daughter to wear on the away games (band). I haven't gotten a straight answer out of her about when the games start.

Well - since this board is about to close:bluesad: Lets go ahead and set the date for Aug 25. I think that looks pretty good to me, too. We can exchange personal contact info then so that we don't lose touch. Do ya'll want to meet in MWC? Congratulations Patsy - only 18 more days - you lucky gal!!
