Well, I managed to waste a perfectly good sewing weekend.
I spent Friday, Saturday and most of Sunday pouting and glaring at a little more than 3 yards of fabric laying on the cutting table.
With stripes about 3 inches wide -- how the heck am I going to get a whole shirt out of this with the stripes matching?
I was pretty annoyed with myself -- I know better -- but I decided to go ahead and cut the front to match the back and if I don't have enough left for sleeves at least I could use it for fitting (shirt for my husband and I know it will fit -- but....).
After coming to this decision I pouted some more then clenched my teeth and cut the front to match the back.
Guess what -- I had plenty for the sleeves.
The facing stripes won't match exactly and the under collar is pieced together at the center back but my husband won't know those things make the shirt less than perfect until my daughter points it out to him (Oh, yeah, she will).
Just a cautionary tale with a happy ending.

Hi Dorothy,

I'm happy to hear that you had enough fabric to complete the shirt. Sometimes when I run into that problem, I make the facings, under collar, inside neck stand(? Is that what it's called?), and sometimes, the inside yoke, a solid coordinating colour. Then it's a designer shirt!
Take care,
Donna

Well I still have an issue with the facing where they turn out to a lapel but I think it will be alright.

Thanks for reminding me, Dorothy, I have a shirt to do for the hubby and it's a one way design! I'd like to match it up too, especially the pocket if I can. I like your idea Donna of the solid coordinating facing!

I pushed it so close that there will be no pocket.

I made one for myself recently with the stand and upper collar a co-ordinating colour. Like Dorothy, I liked the way it turned out.
