I collected all my jeans that don't fit anymore and thought I'd try to make something useful from them. I was going to try totes out of some. BUT a couple of really nice ones fit so well until I buttoned the waist. (I had a surgery that left me with scar tissue (lots) and my waist will never be the same. Normally I wear lower jeans now.)

So I decided I couldn't hurt them and just picked off the waistband. When I put them on, they were PERFECT.

Now I could have sewn on just a simple binding, but I decided I sort of like the "cutoffs" look. I used one of my "quilting" zigzag stitches all the way around the top to keep it from unravelling any more and added a sturdy hook and eye. They are great!

Isn't that terrific when that happens???

It kind of makes up for all of those really, really frustrating moments that happen far more often.

Not too far. I'm about an hour east of San Diego proper. I'd say there's about two and a half hours between us! That's all......... You're straight up the 15/215 if I'm not mistaken. :bg:

There is an article in the new Sew News about redoing jeans with a binding instead of a waistband, thought it looked interesting to try. As far as the rest of the jeans, I've seen some nice quilts made up with jean pieces, if you have lots of jeans that is.

You could mix squares of jeans with cute prints too, I think.

Rag quilts are fun made out of denim and flannel (and cute prints  ).

I have just remodelled a pair of jean I have had in my cupboard for years. They shrunk when I washed them the first time. I opened the outside seams, and added a patchwork stripe and some piping. It snazzed them up and they fit perfectly.
So I went and specifically bought jeans that were too small last week just so I can add the "Soph Factor" to them.
Cheers, Soph.

Soph, I want to see too! How did you handle the waist? The one I ripped the band off and just reinforced to keep from raveling - well, it needs something more cause it's hard to keep them on now! How do they go from too small to too big? Think I'll just do a simple binding on it and leave it at that. But your patchwork panel sounds so unique!!

I'll dig the camera out this afternoon.
I actually put the waist back on exactly as it was, coz that's the one thing I still have. Then I cheated, and just put a pleat in the top of the added material to fit it all back into the waist band. It does "bulge" a little, but I don't mind as I always wear a shirt that covers my waist band (and half of my butt where possible!)
Cheers, Soph.

In my Sandra Betzina Vogue jean pattern, she doesn't put a waistband on the jeans, but she does suggest twill tape at the top and bottom seams to hold the shape of the waist. Works good for me.
