Can't wait to meet all the different ladies that I have been talking to on the forums and to learn a little more about sewing...Just love the expression on my friends' faces when I say that I am going to camp!! and then sewing camp??? Okay, everybody stay well while I'm gone, pray that my guardian angel helps me keep to the speed limit; and that I don't go over my credit card limit!! hehe paula |

OMG!! I had the best fun of my life..I try not to say that in front of DH; he might get insulted...lol If you can save the pennies, the school is totally worth whatever the cost...The instructors were wonderful..Missy Billingsly with assist from Pam from Babylock gave the pre-day heirloom serger baby quilt...I just loved it b/c I have had my Evolve for two years and had only used the overlock features...We did puffing, entredeux, lace insertion -all on the serger...and looks wonderful... The four day scool that I took was given by the amazing Beverly Sheldrick from New Zealand...She is known for her incredible handwork; but this class was to construct a jacket and skirt using techniqes where we embelished our material before it was cut out. First, we totally pintucked the black silk Dupioni in a completely random fashion...After using a very light weight fusible on the back, we then quilted the material to a light batiste using a machine feather stitch...You could use whatever you wanted...She encouraged creativity... And then, she had us slashing the material, adding entredeux or piping... One rarely finishes the projects in the school b/c the main focus is on teaching and leading you to have the confidence to finish on your own... This was definitely several skill levels over anything that I had ever done; but was left with the impression that I could do it...And Beverly is more especially known for her exquisite hand work, including silk ribbon... The lady at my table was from Portland (originally a Southerner from Mississippi), was in her seventies and had brought her GD with her for the children's school...She was just wonderful as was almost everyone that you met...Everyone shared sucessess, stories, heatbreaks, knowledge...And of course, Martha is bigger than life and such a sincere Southern lady who wears her love for our Almighty on her sleeve...After I told her that she was my 6oth birthday present, she had everyone sing "Happy Birthday" to me and to all the July birthday people...At the meals, the MP company was very generous with little gifts; and several sewing machine companies gave away top of the line machines every day... Oh, my gosh, I've rambled on..sorry to be so long-winded; those of you who have short attention spans, I so apologize.... Anyway, it was great...there were ladies who came from several different countries and all over the United States...love of sewing knows no boundraries.. Okay, off to bed, I'm still trying to get my rest...came home to real life and had to go to work for two days and took Mother to her cardiologist today...Maybe can have fun tomorrow in the sewing room... I'm so glad you had a good time! Did you have mixed feelings about coming back home? It'd be interesting to know what they did in the 'children's school'. - Maureen.

I think that there were about 75-80 children in three different age groups...This was the first year for the teens b/c those kids who had started at age 6 or 7 were now teens...If I had to guess, about 60% or more of the kids were grandmother -granddaughter combos. the rest was mother-daughter...You should have seen what they did!! Some classes took a tee shirt and added ruffles to the bottom; they undid old jeans and made skirts out of them; there were cute little bags that they made.. Oh and the cutest thing...one young lady told me that she made a blouse out of thin material...It was probably fine linen...you know how kids mostly wear t-shirts... I am contemplating taking one of my DGD in the next year or so.... Paula |

Wow Paula, sounds like you had a nice time. If I brought one DGD I'd have to bring them all and there is three of them and I couldn't afford to do them all. But it would be a nice thing to do with them I think. Now tell us all about what you did there. I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.
