I've felt so weird today. I'm thinking it must be hormones. I've been on the verge of tears most of the day for no reason. I'm also having that inner ear/dizziness/headache feeling today. My kids and DH have been surprisingly good today, thank Goodness. I haven't felt like doing much of anything except getting on the computer or reading. Hoping tomorrow I'll feel better. |

I hear you. I think that almost every woman (if they're honest) will admit to days like that. I've had times in my life that have been better than others. Now, since I'm beginning to enter menopause, it seems that there are days I'm at the mercy of my hormones. Sometimes I muscle thru it, sometimes they get the best of me. |

That could be part of it Lennie, except the dizzy/vertigo part. That's happened on and off for over two years. It makes me afraid to drive when I get like this. My head has has been spinning today. Maybe it's a combination of relief that the past few days are over , mixed with my inner ear problems, and all wrapped up with PMS. Corrina, It's funny how me and my 15yo dd both get hormonal at the same time. She's been irritable for a few days, but still being nice to me. At least she understands it more then the males here. |

I am so glad it isn't only me!!! I have been having a lot of mood swings lately. I wish I had the money or insurance to go to a DR. But I think the money thing could be part of what is getting me down! DH has not had a lot of work lately & the way Michigan's economy has been going I don't see it getting better. But it could also be hormones as I am getting older. or it could just be that having 5 adults (is an 18 YO really an adult?) living in the same house with a hormonal 15YO could also cause a lot of it. It does make me feel better to know I am not alone. Barb

Bama, I can totally relate. Some days it can get the best of you. I have learned the hard way that I have to be flexible and roll with the punches. There are times when I just have to sit down and relax, forgetting about what I really want to be doing. When my teenage daughters were home, we were all hormonal at the same time of every month. We didn't even realize it at first. Only one was really moody but she always suffered the worst. MaryW

Bama & Barb - Does misery love company? I'll bake a cake & I'll make it chocolate. I just went to my OB/GYN on Monday for my annual, & I'm just not ready to start any medical interventions - I'll tough it out for a little longer. Or at least as long as my husband can stand the mood swings. That and the anxiety are the worst. Especially when you know better & can't control yourself. Bama, it's nice to have some support from your DD. It's you against the guys sometimes. It's me, DH & DS (when he's home from college). I had to get a girl dog to even things out. |

Bams, I was only joking but I don't doubt for a moment that your recent stress has absolutely made things worse for you this month. Joining in with the hormone fun myself but luckily it's just making me hyper so I'm getting lots done Lennie |

So at what age does this pre-menopause thing start getting better? I thought my problem would be solved when I had an ablasion done last year. That only solved one problem. The pain and my nerves are getting worse. I need to schedule an appointment with my GYN. And I think I might need to see my ENT doctor again too. I'm falling apart. |

When I was in my nursing education program (1950's+60's) one of my classmates met with a nurse from Taiwan who described how each ward in her hospital had a fountain in it that bubbled some sort of antiseptic solution to get rid of the miasma's. Ever since I have always liked the word and concept. I am also not feeling well today, having a headache and a little renal colic - so maybe there is a miasma over us and our stashes. I am definitely not near menopause. So at what age does this pre-menopause thing start getting better? Sorry Bama, in my experience (and I have plenty) it doesn't. It just turns into regular menopause. Use it honey -- "You're giving me stress -- You're giving me a hot flash -- is it hot in here or is it just YOU!!" People tend to get out of the way. Dorothy (me) |

Dorothy, I don't know about being nice... a few years ago my husband told me I was"not as nice as I used to be". I told him it had nothing to do with being nice. I just no longer had doormat written across my forehead. I think it has to do with this over 50 thing... On another subject, why don't I start signing my posts Dorothy D. and that should help with the confusion. What do you think? Dorothy D. Dorothy D.

Bama, I have to chime in with my wishes for you.. I hope you have the kind of menopause that I had.. I can count on the fingers of one hand the hot flashes I had.. and no other symptoms at all.. My uterus was removed when I was 45 because it was full of fibroids that came back after a d & c 6 months earlier.. But , I still have my ovaries.. (probably totally dried up now at 73) LOL.. But , no hot flashes to speak of, and the mood swings got a lot better when my best friend confided that a woman GYN told her to cut down on salt because that was causing her pms and migranes both.. Worked for me, also.. on another part of this discussion, My mom, my sister and I always had cycles in sync with each other.. I think the norm is for the females in 1 family to have the same cycle.. My Mom had all of us on New Moons.. and the cycle is based on the lunar calendar.. (28 days) Sew With Love

It is a well attested fact that in closed communities you tend to get everyone menstruating together - can you imagine! It was bad enough in hospital post baby when we all had the four days blues together - the midwives just passed around hankies. My daughters and I start to fall out of alignement when we are apart, but in the holidays we start to line up again. I blame the pheremones. They must be powerful things because midway through a cycle Tony gets the unexpained "hots" - I tell him he is having a period. Keep control of the thermostat for as long as you can - my Mum made it for 20 years (longest menopause in history...) love and kisses, Jan

Maybe the "dizzy/vertigo" part is a hormonal migraine? I had them for years, with headaches mild enough to get through without medication but always dizzy, off balance, and just feeling weird. Have you ever strung a button on a thread, twirled the thread around like a centrifuge and then snapped the thread out straight and watched the button sort of hum on the thread? That's what I always used to say I felt like. I felt like the button, vibrating on the thread. After about 20 years the headache part got worse and I required meds. to handle them but was amazed when my doctor told me those were migraine headaches. |
