My 15yo loves this stuff. It's a good way to get pre-teens and teens interested in sewing too.

Thanks for the site. I'll pass the info to my DD who is 19 as she might enjoy reconstructing some of her clothes.

I'd love to be able to do that cowl-like hoodie.

blackie,
You're so creative I would think you could come up with some great ideas.

I want to try adding hoodies to some tees for my daughter, but I'm not sure how to go about it. I thought about ordering this book: http://www.generation-t.com/book.html
Anyone seen it? Any instructions for adding hoods?

My non-conformist daughter likes to look different than everybody else, so maybe this could be a way to sew for her again. I think the tee dresses and halter tops are cute too, but I doubt she would wear them.

I don't know if that book has instructions for hoodies. These two reviews sum up the, "meh, s'okay" I've been hearing about the book:

Review 1 (http://sewing.patternreview.com/cgi-bin/readbookreview.pl?readreview=1&ID=925)

Review 2 (http://sewing.patternreview.com/cgi-bin/readbookreview.pl?readreview=1&ID=803)

However. If you did get the book you might VERY WELL be able to sew something for your daughter that she'd love. And I really think that's worth it.

Why oh why can't we have some of the old school, good technique and know-how combined with newer fashions? I love deconstructing clothes but most decons I see out there are A. for slim, flat-chested beauties with relatively un-challenging fitting issues, and B. are often sewn in a relatively flimsy way. For instance that halter top on the front of the book; I think it's an adorable style and when I've tried to do it for my DD self my girls try to break loose and I look very trashy indeed not to mention don't feel at all safe or secure a quick movement won't bring part of me out into the open!

I'd love to know how to sew the styles I like but in a way that flatters me and holds up to time and use.

/ soapbox.

Thanks Wendy! Perfect instructions!
That young lady did a fantastic job with her tutorial.
Cute hoodies too.

blackie,
you described my dd pretty well:
most decons I see out there are A. for slim, flat-chested beauties with relatively un-challenging fitting issues
(she's a size 1 :nervous: and an A cup )

I want to give it a try as soon as I finish up with the hot block swap. I found a red spider man shirt that my son tossed out.

I saw some cute ideas on craftster for pillowcase skirts too, but I don't think a regular pillowcase would fit around me to try it. dd doesn't like skirts.

It sounds like your situation is perfect for you to try all those great Craftster tutorials etc where the garments are modeled on similar young ladies (both in slimness and aesthetic). I hope you do it, and I hope you post pictures!

I'm hoping to try a few things within the week. I found a cute ladybug covered tee on clearance today that says YOU REALLY BUG ME. It's a junior size large but since dd has always loved ladybugs, I bought it to to reconstruct for her. I bought two actually. I might add panels to the sides of the other to make it fit me (it's a little too tight for my liking) and wear it on Halloween. I even thought about adding a red hood with black dots on it. We always wear some kind of funny shirt at school on Halloween for the elementary school kids to see.
