I just got a BRother Embroidery Machine and it came with the PED Basic Software Program. I have installed it on my computer and bought a couple font designs off the internet that were sent to me in PES format.... But When I click on them, it asks my what to open them in, and I don't see anything about PES or Winzip...

Can anyone tell me what I need to open these PES designs so I can get them on my card?? Anybody have PED Basic and can give me some tips, advice? :throw:

Thank you!

Hello,
I have PED basic and I love it.
First you have to download the designs into the program. Make sure the extension is .pes, if they are .zip, you will have to unzip them first.
Once you download the designs save them to the sample directory of PED.
Once the designs are in PED, put your memory card in and move the designs over to the left hand side and they will automatically be installed on your memory card.

Hope you understood my explanation, if not email me.

As Sondray stated, it may be that you haven't unzipped the files yet. You will become familiar with the .pes icon after you've done so. If your designs have been unzipped, you may try opening them after you've opened the software. Open your software, click on the file folders icon at the upper left and then locate where your designs are stored from the little file folder window that will open. Click on the appropriate folder, then click okay and the designs should be visible. From there, be sure the designs will fit within your hoop (it hasn't been crossed out in red). Click your design and the arrow at the bottom of the right box will become "clickable". Click the arrow to move the design to your card.

Please note: you will be unable to merge single letters to make a word or sayings using PED-Basic. If this is your goal you will need to purchase additional software. PED-Basic reads and transfers ready made designs.

If you did not know, there are a few updates (http://www.brother-usa.com/homesewing/software/) for the PED basic that you will need to download from the Brother website.

Ok, I downloaded the driver and software that I needed to use with the Windows Vista Program.... The fonts that I bought off the internet are in PES format, but it says they are located in "Archieve Root Directory". and I can't find that file anywhere when I search through PED? And I can't figure out to move or to save them somewhere else. Has anyone delt with this before?

Thanks SO much for your help!

Is there a way to download your fonts again only this time have a special destination folder for them already prepared? You can create the new folder on your desktop if it is easier to find that way.

I am still working with Windows XP. I have heard that there can be some problems with embroidery software and VISTA. Hopefully someone will come along who can explain how to use the compatibility mode on the computer. I have no other ideas to offer . . .sorry. :bluesmile
