there was a post here a week or two ago about making men's t shirts over to fit women. I can't find it & DD just asked me to do one for her. Does anyone else remember where it is? The search engine isn't working right now I already tried!:bg:

I found that one Bama but there was an actual tutorial telling how to do it. I am trying one without the instructions I will let you know how it turns out.

I'm pretty sure you don't mean my post, but I did post something recently regarding making a man's shirt into one for me (http://nikkishell.typepad.com/wardroberefashion/2007/06/tshirt_recon_fr.html). It isn't a tutorial per se but there are a few links to invaluable methods, specifically for the neckline which is the trickiest part of a t-shirt.

Basically if you have a t-shirt or t-shirt pattern you like, you can use it to refashion. One problem I always have is the logo on the front of the shirt ends up higher than the original shirt intends. This is partly because I have to shift the pattern lower a bit to cut out the new shoulder lines, and partly because my bust is taking up lots of room in the shirt.

Artsy Mirror-Shot.

Good luck!

I did one for her today. It turned out pretty good except slightly tighter than she wanted. I did think to trace the pattern before I sewed but I didn't cut it out so I can add another 1/2" to the pattern for next time.
Sorry I didn't think to take pictures.
Blackie I think someone else posted a link as a reply to your post with the tutorial.

EDIT:
I found it!!!

If I see men's tee shirts in a good cotton fabric in the colors I like, on sale, final markdown, (cheep cheep!) I buy the whole stack and wash them all in hot water. Then, when I have the time, I turn them all inside out, press out each tee shirt and lay my old stretch n sew pattern over it. I cut off the hem, snip, snip! And as I cut the sides, I snick out a little of each sleeve because it's really designed to accommodate that big men's muscle. Then I serge the sides together, serge the bottom edge, hem and press.

This method is probably not dressmaker-correct, but the shirts fit me right, have an actual curved waist instead of straight side seams, and have their hem at the right place. The last time I bought a stack of men's short sleeve shirts, size huge, and cut them all down. They look right, feel right, and they didn't cost a bomb.

I'm glad you found that. I looked for it yesterday too. I brought a Jimmy Buffet t shirt home from Florida a couple of years ago for my son and after I gave it to him we realized the sleeves were way to large and long. Maybe I can fix it. Thanks for finding it.
