I've always had to fiddle with the tension on my Husqvarna 400. Not the bobbin tension, never touched that. It's always been more sensitive to different fabric types and thicknesses than my old machine. It's been back to the place I bought it, so many years ago I forget how many but at least 20 I think, and of course, it's just like a car and always works perfectly for them. They were an authorized dealer/service but are closed now. But now it is worse and the tension changes mid-seam. Mid sleeve seam even, not a pant leg. I will have it right at the start and by the end, sometimes, the tension is out of whack and too tight on top. The dials are not moving out of the setting on me. Most recently this is happening on ordinary mid weight cotton twill. With Mettler thread. The DH is going to open it up and give it a good cleaning for me. And I know a servicing is probably in order. But does anyone have any tips for me as to what might be causing this and what I can do to fix, pre expensive servicing? |

Could it be that you are gripping the fabric too tightly while sewing it?? I used to have lots of problems with what I thought was my machine tension settings and I found out that my own bodily tension and grip on the fabric was causing all my problems.. Now that I have learned to relax and lightly guide my fabric my machine has improved to have perfect tension settings... LOL .. Just a suggestion from my own experience..

Thanks Libby, I have done exactly as you say but that is not the case now. I did find a new dealer/service for my make in town and am waiting for them to call me back. |
