Last week a woman that I know (and see almost every day) had a tummy tuck, breast inplants, and had the bags under her eyes done. All in the same day. A few days later she was in intensive care in critical condition with blood clots in her lungs. I heard today that she is now in stable condition and has been moved to a regular room. I don't understand why she thought she needed to do all of those things. There was nothing wrong with the way she looked. She's always been attractive. |

Who knows why women would put themselves through all that. I will keep my tummy (kids like to cuddle into it..it is soft and squeashy) I don't need more at the top, (gee they are soft and squeashy too) http://www.sew-whats-new.com/forums/biggrin.gif and I have earned every lil wrinkle (laugh lines) I have. I wear them as badges of honor and am proud of them!!! I am a grandmother of 1 and 1 on the way any day now. I am short and round (sort of reminds you of the fairy godmother on the Disney Cinderella http://www.sew-whats-new.com/forums/biggrin.gif and I LOVE it!!! I don't have any gray hairs yet, but i frosted my hair with blond!! Lets face it, when a kid comes home from school, frustrated, they don't want to be told "Eat a carrot stick and go run around the block to work it out!" (what skinny moms say) they want "Poor child, heres a squeashy hug and lets have a bowl of ice cream with cookies and we will talk about it!" lol Ok I am done now! http://www.sew-whats-new.com/forums/biggrin.gif ------------------ Sewing Forever Housework Whenever Reta J Sewing Forever

Bama, I hope that lady is ok. I know I get fed up with the sags, wrinkles and gray hair as well, but it is part of life. You can't be young forever. I had my grandson tell me the other day "you're the best nanny anyone could have" along with a big hug. I would rather have that than any tummy tuck or implant. MaryW

I don't think she thaught she needed it but maybe she wanted it. It is so easy today. She should have done it gradually; all of it at the same time is a bit too much for the system. I've put on a few pounds myself but no matter how much running and exercising I do, I've hit a plateau. Most of the weight is in my lower body. In the summer, it is very painful because my inner thighs keep rubbing and it becomes, how can I explain, like when you have chapped lips. The skin becomes very red, almost purple. It is very painful. I can't wear a skirt 2 days in a row unless I wear nylons (mysery loves company http://www.sew-whats-new.com/forums/rolleyes.gif ) I'm thinking having my inner thighs done in the near future. I plan on shopping around for a good surgeons. Two of my friends had some kind of surgery done. I'll ask them their opinion about their doctors and take it from there. |

After 48 years of being practically flat chested and being told that I have the breast of a 13 year old at mammogram time, I finally decided to have breast augmentation. My DH was super supportive and told me not to do it for him because it really didn't matter to him about the size of the "twins". I explained that I was doing it for me. I wanted to be able to go shopping for a dress or top without worrying about what kind of bra I could wear with it and look like a woman instead of a boy. I had been thinking about this for years, but did not feel comfortable with the procedure until last year. After much research and consultations with several surgeons, I had my surgery in October. My surgery was on a Wednesday and I was back at work on Monday. I look and feel great and feel more confident in my appearance. Oh, and my DH was a tremendous nurse and he has a new appreciation for the "twins". |

Well, good for you. If it increases your self confidence and gives a boost to your appearance it was well worth it. No, I won't ask for a picture. LOL. MaryW

It is very unfortunate that there is too much emphasis put on body beauty through the media. It makes women and girls feel inadequate and we should not be made to feel that way. |

Men are also seriously getting under the knife these days so I guess they keep a lot to themselves where women usually share these feelings. My thought is they are not as secure as they'd like us to believe. |

I have noticed quite a few men dying their hair too. Some of the old celebrities are going thru all sorts of stuff to look better. I always thought that it all caught up with you in a few years. If this is the case, what is the point? You know what else bugs me. Tattoos. An awful lot of women have tattoos these days. Some are small and discreet. This is fine, but others are garrish and awful. What are these women going to do in a few years when they are grandmothers with a big rose blooming on their neck. One woman I saw had a parrot tattoo that went from her ankle to her knee in full colour. Looks just awful in my eyes. It's all a matter of taste I guess. Like I said, small, discreet ones are fine. Some are very tasteful, but for the most part, I don't like them. MaryW

Mary, I agree about the big huge ones... I don't like them on Men or Women... however, I do have three small ones no biger than 2'' square.... each one was for a "reason" however, I got them all in my EARLY twenties, and now that I am in my 30's I still like them, but wouldn't mind having two of them removed!

What is the purpose of a Tattoo? My middle son has His name, his EX-WIFE's name and all of his children's names on his back. And his new wife's name. It's disgusting. He is now trying to remove the one of his ex. It's so senseless to me. They turn green if you don't go back and have them recolored too. It's nasty looking I think. If you get one on your body in a discret place that's your business. I guess it's your business if it's on your body too. LOL I better quit while I'm ahead. But that's my opinion. LOL I don't like the nose rings either. Just call me old fashion. |

Well, talking about Plastic surgery… I had a bust reduction 10 years ago, because they were just huge and dense, too heavy for my frame of 60 kg and 5.6” (~130lbs). I was very uncomfortable all my life and that’s when I had to learn seriously about alterations and started ‘adapting’ my clothes... I could never find anything that could fit me all around, I’ve never had a dress until then. My DH was very nervous, but went along with it, because I wanted to have it done. Well, to cut a long story short, after the surgery (I was in hospital for a week) I started putting on weight. My boobs look like an 18 year olds, 36C, but I am now 80 kg (176lbs) and all of it on my tummy from my bust all the way down! I will think twice now of ‘playing’ with anything I have, as I believe it will affect something else! I was thinking of a tummy tuck before, but my girlfriend had it done and it all came back after a year. They say it should not, but it did! Now, about the tattoos – I can not see anything attractive in it, but that’s a matter of choice and I respect that, but I do think a lot of people would like to remove them when they get older… The earrings anywhere but the ears are also strange to me. I guess at almost 55, I have to adapt to the times, but then again, I never went for the funny stuff we had in the 70’s, so I must be a conservative. LOL. My 32 year old DD never had any of this, so I guess I am not used to it… Enough rambling.. At the end, I would just like to say that it is so nice to share your thoughts with others…. Mary called it a family, so let it be. |

Thanks for the warning! I've been toying w. reduction surgery myself (34DD or E) but was worried about relocation of nipples- would have liked it if they could take it from top & relocate round back (no butt at all!) Didn't even think about it changing after surgery! P.S. to anyone who's modestly endowed, mammograms no picnic if you're top-heavy! I guess I'll stay with what I have, shoulder-dents and all! |

I can only imagine what it is like. My friend had breast reduction done TWICE!!! She is still very well endowed.
